All written history is a little biased.

Here are some Catholic Church history websites:

http://www.shc.edu/theolibrary/history.htm

With love in Christ.

Well, if you ask a catholic, they'll say it's foundings were with the apostle Peter. But if you ask a Christian, they will tell you that it was founded by Constantine. The story goes, he was about to battle a war and prayed, "God if you help me to win this battle, I and all my army will become Christians." Well, he won the battle and converted to Christianity and forced all his men to become Christian. There's just one problem with that. You can't force someone to become a Christian. It doesn't work like that. It's got to be from your heart.
So to make a long story short, these soldiers ended up bringing alot of there paganism into the church. This added to the fact that there was no separation from church and state in ancient Rome, the church leaders WERE the state leaders, lead to the force of the whole populus to be converted.
When this spread to England, that's when the inquisitions and tortures and murders of Christians began by the Roman Catholic Church there. Did you know that's why the order of the Jesuites was established? They were the king and the pope's army sent to carry out the tortures and murders of true Christians that saw and spoke up about the evils in the church. They even murdered many of the early bible translaters because the church didn't want the people to understand the bible and read it for themselves. They only wanted them to know their interpretation of it. I could go on but that's about the jist of it. Good luck on your paper.

In brief the present day Catholic church is a descendant from "the Church of Rome" where the Apostles of Jesus went to try to convert them from their Pagan ways.
In short if you go on the web and look for the Church of Rome it should be detailed there. The Bible has some very good resources on this subject and references that you could follow through Biblical Scholars writings.
