I never eat the end of a Banana. I always think that creepy crawlies will be in the end of it! That black bit at the end kind of looks a bit like a spider to me. I heard that spiders sometimes lay eggs in the end of a banana. I think my dad told me that as he used to work in a fruit market, and they used to see all kinds of creatures coming out of the banana boxes. After that I always broke off the end of the banana...

lol - i know exactly what u mean - i always avoid eating that last inch of the banana because of that little black bit u get at the end. i suppose we are brought up to think that if food has gone black , then it's usually gone bad. i guess there's always the insect option too, as one of the previous answers mentions, although i've never found a bug in a banana. the only time i found a bug in my fruit was when i was eating a pear, and an earwig crawled out the end !!! YUCK !!! never eaten another pear since.......

It's not just the end of the banana which makes me feel sick, it's all of it! Especially the smell, and especially the smell of the skin, when it's been peeled. And don't even get me started on over-ripe ones - yeugh. I think it's something to do with the chemicals they give off (you know that to ripen some other fruits people suggest that you put them next to a banana - apparently it speeds up the ripening process). Still yeugh.

I really don't like anything about bananas but the end of them is just vile. Why would anyone want to eat those little hard black bits out of choice, ugh

yeah haven't really noticed people feeling sick by it, but for a while I was kind of disgusted by the ends because I learned that tarantulas and other spiders lay their eggs in the tips of the bananas that have been harvested for sale in America.

it will make me feel sick..lol
PS: Banana is my favourite fruit love it 24/7
>>>>>>>>>>>>>EDIT<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Have you ever noticed ..the banana is never contaminated by bugs or maggots of any kind ..it will stand to rot but it will never attract bugs or fly to lay eggs on..

You don't have to eat the black part at the end if you peel the bananas like a monkey. The following youtube clip shows how monkeys peel bananas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBJV56WUDng
