The soul belongs to God. The body belongs to the material world. Now because we have sinned before God we are here. But again God gives the opportunity to return. The soul does not require anything it's food is to chant the glorification of Lord to return back. Because the spirit soul is inside the material body, by maintaining the body with only what is required (eating only the required, sleeping only the required etc)and giving the soul (the glorification of the Lord) it's due want; one can be relieved of all miseries. So chant/glorification with the tongue- always.

No,our body is not a prison for our soul. Its a medium for the soul to fulfill some dream of God.Every soul comes to earth by promising to do some good thing,to make God's creation more beautiful for that it requires a medium and that is our body. Its not a prison its a temple where our God lives. So learn to respect that God presents inside us as a our soul.

It is 'housed' not imprisoned in a 'body' so that the deeds of the body and the brain are stamped on the soul and the mind, for a judgement in the hereafter.

So that you get the opportunity to improvise your soul and come a step closer to God.

When perfect purity of Soul is achieved, then no longer would you need the "Body".

I believe the body is a 'tool' not a 'prison'.
As for why? Just for the experience of it all, so make the most of it.

Why do you think of the soul as being "trapped" or in prison or whatever?
It's just where it's supposed to be.
