We need money this coming Christmas for our Gift Giving for children, we ran out of funds, is there any idea on how do we raise it? aside from solicitation and caroling (i need a rare advice)?

You could sell plate lunches, or have someone make large pots of soup, and sell bowls of it.
You could sell cakes and cookies.
You could print out on Christmas themed paper a newsletter that tells a person what your group has done, and would like to do and invite people to donate.

Another one is find a wholesale nursery that you could get poinsettias at a good price and sell them.

Well as a member of a youth coucil myself, I would say contacting businesses and corporations for sponsoring. Also there are many organizations where there main operation is funding non-profit initiative such as the United Way, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (in Canada). Write proposals and send them out. The worst that can happen is that they say no. But the more information you give, the more professional you are, the more youth you have involved, the more you are willing to say who sponsored you, and the more public you are about it the more likely you are to get funding.

It's a good idea to let the young people do the fund raising themselves.
They can organise functions like morning/afternoon teas, quizz nights, fancy dress parties, beauty contests, etc. You can organise raffles to go with any of these and usually it's easy to find people or local businesses to donate the prizes.
Also there is car washing, mowing lawns and other services they could do.
Have a brain storming session with your group and they are likely to come up with all sorts of good ideas.

Fairs are so much fun and you can get all your youth group involved. Ask for a collection at your church. then hold it in your church grounds or at a nearby park. all the members of you church can bake, sew, make, create, and sell things.
our last youth group fair raised $21,000 so it does work......you can include car washes, econd hand clothes, junk sale (old pots and pans and dishes), old stuffed bears and toys, books, you can put ona play...make a theatre, do side show games like at shows, have music, get people to bake.......invite the whole community and it will promote your church as well as being fun fun fun!!!! .....Good luck :-) oh and you could have a petting zoo, and a creche, photography sessions, use all the talents that different peopel have, do competitions like raffles!
