When you are baptized in Holy Spirit, you can speak in tongues with the Holy Spirit giving you utterance.
I speak in tongues.
The Apostle Paul desired all of us to stir up our spiritual gifts by speaking in tongues (2 Tim 1:6)
When we speak in tongues when edify ourselves ie we build up our spirits and we become spiritually sensitive even to be able to hear God's voice. (1 Cor 14:4).
In 1 Cor 14:19 Paul was referring to speaking in tongues in church and advised that we do not do so unless there is interpretation so that others can understand.
Tongues are used more for prayers in private or in prayer meetings where everyone pray in tongues.
Paul wrote in 1 Cor 14:39 'do not forbid to speak with tongues.
When we pray in tongues our spirits pray ie we are exercising our spirits to make them strong (1 Cor 14:14).
We build up our faith when we pray in the Spirit (ie tongues) (Jude20)
Tongues are God's heavenly languages given to us to communicate with Him which the devil does not understand and they give him a headache.
Tongues can be interpreted when God gives us the interpretation.

I have not yet talked in tongues.

There is the talking in tongues that one receives when they receive the Holy Ghost.

Also there is a gift of talking in tongues that is to be interpreted by someone else (or the same person) as a message from God.

You can basically say that we still speak in tongues. There are tons of languages and dialects within those languages. A Universal language might emerge. It has in a way, through numbers. Its time to revisit the ancient scrolls and original texts, because much has been lost in translation. As far as the second coming; The more I research it, the more I think that the monotheistic religions of Judaism, (all divisions of)Christianity and Islam need to realize that their core religions are based around the same God, and that various human prophets have delivered His message over the past several thousand years, so various religions have formed. Prophets are given God's word to purify the belief system of His followers and to establish the roots of a religion. All of those religions have truths in them that are jaded by fallacies in practice. The true undiscovered Trinity of our time would be a united Jerusalem. After that happens, then the second coming might happen. I'm a realist too, so I don't expect this within our lifetime, unless we create a miracle. (Yes, We create the miracle, since all of us have control of our own actions, only we are the ones who have the power to stop violence and seek truth!) Peace

I have ever talked in toungues,in most cases when am so taken up in worship. However,i do believe there is a difference between the Tongues talked about in the book of acts, and the tongues talked about in the book of 1Corinthians by Paul

Difference being that the one in the book of Acts, was for Apostles, who were given mandate to "go and make disciples of all nations" so,they were given that gift of tongues,as in different languages so that people from different nations can hear them and understand the Gospel.

I have read testimonies that these kind of toungues "with interpretaion still exist,as in people still speak in suhc tongues. You are taken in what some people call gibberish when in actual sense you are talking in some other groups language.

The tongues talked about in 1Corinthians 14 is a different thing altogether, and its for personal editification. Its for your communication between you and your God.Its in such circumstances that people have gotten visions.

However,am open to learn more about this,if anyone have an argument with me,come let us reason together. ay.barham@yahoo.com

Please don't be deceived. Tongues is only used to glorify God and teach the gospel message, not to blabber on and on. See I Corinthians 14 (the whole chapter is on tongues)

I Corinthians 14:19 "I'd rather speak five words and be understood, that others may be taught, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue"

Remember Satan has a counterfeit for everything!

It's called by many denominations being baptized in the Spirit. Most nondenominational churches believe in it and sanction it's use among their congregants. And yes I have talked in tongues.
Some people call it their God language because they can not understand it and they use it when they want to pray but don't kow what to say.

yes, and I have watched and listened to a girlfriend who began speaking while she was explaining things to me. I have travelled rather extensively and could recognize several languages although I could not say what was said.
the bible says that people may speak in tongues but no more than three in a meeting and only if there is an interpreter present. tongues is something like prayer, a thing between you and your god....................[corinthians and matthew]
