I had this problem before with IE, and other microsoft programs for some reason. There was also a grinding noise, and it turned out that my hard drive was about to die. So, if you hear a strange noise when it freezes, then it could be your hard drive.

Another possibility is spyware/adware/virus which is slowing down your computer. You can use antivirus and anti-spyware programs to try to fix it, but the only way to completely get rid of them is to reinstall windows.

Lastly, I had major problems with my computer at one point, and it was because Norton antivirus was screwing everything up. If you have Norton, you should replace it with a free program like AVG which has never given any problems to anyone I know. Good luck.

Install the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (Version 2) and everything would be back to normal. Try erasing all your temp files or install Track Eraser and it will do it for you. I am sure after doing this exercise you should be all set.
