It is a balance. Light does not exsist without dark. How would we know good without evil?

Use the force, Luke. We know how it always ends (sometimes in the waaay long run).

There are some gray areas, but there are some things which ought to be considered evil by everyone in my opinion. Things like murder of an innocent person for no reason, rape, child molestation - those are evil and dark. I don't see any gray in those things. Other issues may depend on your point of view, or the specific situation you find yourself in.

Looking at it scientifically, light is associated with energy and darkness is the lack of it.

We are energy and matter. The lack of energy, from any point of view is bad. When there is no more energy, existence is void. After evil has lured you in, it will suck you dry and throw you away. That's why the experts say to stay away from it.

1 John 1:5-7 This is the message he has given us to announce to you: God is light and there is no darkness in him at all. So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness. We are not living in the truth. But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from every sin.

Light represents what is good, pure, true and holy and reliable. Darkness represents wat is sinful and evil.
The statement "God is light" means that God is perfectly holy and true and that he alone can guide us out of the darkness of sin. Light is also related to truth in that light exposes whatever exists, whether it is good or bad. In the dark, good and evil look alike; in the light they can be clearly distinguished. Just as darkness cannot exist in the presence of light, sin cannot exist in the presence of a holy God.

These are the dualities of this world. No matter what is our point of view we are all forced to live with them. They arise from sense perception and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.

To an extent it is point of view, in that our beliefs form our reality as we know it. However, in truth, only good exists. This is because good (God) has no opposite.
