Digital's good but not great (not that I can really remember nights out there very well lol). Attic is good or head down to The Gate there's plenty of choice e.g Tiger Tiger. World Headquarters has a good reputation but haven't been there yet. Liquid has just opened it's really good but expensive drinks. Sea's nice - great location down by the river but quite small.
As for bars try Hoko 10's, it one of my favourites bars here it's trendy but cheap too. Plenty of choice in The Gate. The Long Bar's nice, comfortable place good for starting out and good drinks deals. Lounge is nice and comfy. Revolution usually packed but they do loads of good cocktails.
They're just the places I've been to and there are tons of other good places, so I'm sure you'll have a great time ;-)

The Gate has plenty of bars & clubs, but they are all part of chains (Mood, Hide, etc etc). They're all right but The Gate wouldn't be my first choice on a night out. This is just my opinion but I find The Gate devoid of any atmosphere. There's nothing wrong with the bars though, although they seem partial to competitions between themselves to see who can play the loudest music.
The Bigg Market is dog rough and if you fancy copping off with 14-year-old slappers and then getting knuckled by their charver boyfriends, this is the place for you.
A pricier area is around Central Station and running along Collingwood Street. Here you have bars like Destination, The Union Rooms (Wetherspoons), Revolution, Apartment, @Home, The Attic, The Lodge, The Living Room, and right at the end is Bar 55 which is a little cavernous but all right. You can always start off in this area and move down to the Quayside as the areas almost overlap (if you go down the hill when you reach The Lodge, it will take you to the Quayside). It's a good area for drinking, but prices can be high (but if the cocktails in The Living Room are anything to go by, they're worth it!).
The Quayside would be my preferred arena for drinking. It's absolutely packed on a weekend but the pubs are lively & cosy and have a great atmosphere. Akenside is a fairly good place to start off but not really somewhere to stick around all night. People then usually move on to Offshore and the bars along that street. There are some clubs in the area too.
As for meeting up.... Sorry but I'm busy clipping my toenails that night. :oP

if you don't know newcastle well, then i would reccomend 'the gate'. Its a bit like a shopping centre, but full of pubs. there are a few eateries upstairs too.
then for clubbing... just wander outside and you have Tiger Tiger.... its a massive club, with all different types of rooms to suit any taste.
as an alternative... if you can stomach it, the gay scene in newcastle is amazing and lots of straight lads enjoy a night out there, apparently its great for pulling, i wudnt know though.
you also have the quayside, there are loads of pubs and clubs there.... all pretty decent, stuff like chase, apartment, tokoyo and that, then you have Sea nightclub...
id reccomend 'The Gate' above all though

I agree, the Gate is good and also the Quayside although that can be a bit expensive.
Avoid the Bigg Market like the plague - unless you like teenagers with an attitude problem who either just want to get p***** and fight (males) or who look like poor extra's from a Christina Aguilera video (female).
For food, Stowell St, around the corner from the Gate is great for Chinese food.
Enjoy!!
