Hi. I love cooking alot and was searching for a Malay type of kuei by the name of Kueh Lapis... Its not the colourful type, but the brown colour type. It was sold for about SGD$30+ per kgs. but not all are nice. Anyone have the recipe for it?

kueh lapis /lah-pis, ÈlApIs/ n. [Mal. lapis layer, stratum] 1 A rich Indonesian cake flavoured with various spices, including several of allspice, aniseed, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla, with alternating dark and light layers that are gradually laid down during the baking process; the cake is known in Indonesia as lapis legit [Johor Mal., Ind. legit sweet, nice (Winstedt, Echols & Shadily, Ind.–Eng.); or Batavia Ind. < Balinese Ind., sticky and soft (Wilkinson)] and originates from the Dutch spekkoek [Du., lard cake: spek, spekken fat, lard + koek cake (Martin & Tops)]. Also known as cake lapis. 2 A soft, sticky Peranakan steamed cake flavoured with coconut that is oblong in shape and consists of several brightly-coloured layers. i dont have the recipe but i absolutely love this stuff. my grandma like to make it for special occasions which isnt very often. over the summer i was browsing around my asian foods market and found that they sell kueh lapis all vaccuumed packed and boxed up to sell for about $5. it was about teh size of a water bottle. maybe a little bit bigger. and it wanst bad, quite tasty actually.
