how have you been?

I'm not a native English speaker.
Are the following valid greetings commonly used by English speaker:

How have you been?
How have you been doing?

both ok but 'how's it going?' - sounds better

They are for if you have not seen the person for a while or a bit of time. (over a couple months)

Just say, "how are you?" or "how are you doing?"--this implies "now" or the present day. The other questions or greetings imply "how have you been...for the past couple months or "what have you been up too?" also implies a bit of a length in time since the last confrontation.

How have you been? is propper English or written English.

Those are pretty much casual conversation.(slang)
How have you been doing?
I dont know anyone who would say that, although we know what you mean it just sounds really strange and uptight.
Most Americans speak American Slang, unless you're employed in Corporate America then you better not! hehe

but then again hello works good too.
it is basically a personal preference.

Both are alright terms but a little too formal. If you want to be casual just say 'How are you?' or 'What've you been up too?' Something like that would be better.
