The reason is the you can have a bad reaction to the anti-bio tics, and i can tell you from experience that it is very very true, i was taking them for a bladder infection, and had finished the day before, and i have a bottle of bourbon , and coke mix, small bottle and within 5 minutes i was sooooo sick and spun out, and whoa did i feel sick, so just beware, it can happen to some people and not to others, i don't know why? good luck and god bless.

It is not recommended. Drinking alcohol won't effect you any differently to how it normally does BUT it will stop the antibiotics from working. Your choice of not having an alcoholic drink for a short period or the antibiotics working & you getting rid of an infection.

When you drink alcohol carriage is increased in the body system i. e that since you tend to urinate more, some of the drugs is passed out in you urine before it is able to perform its function thus reducing the overall efficiency. It is not ideal to take alcohol with any drug but it is particularly bad with antibiotics because their effectiveness is over a number of days and each dose is critical for relieve to be achieved. Which is why you are advised not to skip any dose.

Your advised not to drink while taking antibiotics as their less effective, if you do drink it wouldn't do you any harm. BUT... some antibiotics such as Metronidazole, if you drink while taking them or something similar it can make you very sick, so much so that you can't drink for a few days after finishing the course. But you should always check first with your doctor.

Because it will either limit their effectiveness, or have a nasty reaction which will may make you sick, then they wouldn't work at all! It depends on what type of antibiotic you have taken, sometimes you can have a drink or two but others you can't have any alcohol. Best to ask your doctor when they prescribe them to you.

I had antibiotics a few months ago for an infected tooth, and I forgot I was on them! When I went to a family do, I ahd just 2 glasses of wine and keeled over, very odd! (It usually takes me 3 to fall haha!) Seriously tho, I think that takedn together, they both make you feel rank and woozy and stop the antibiotics working, so dont do it! :O) xx

Look at the RX bottle, does it say do not drink alcohol?
Myths are myths because people tell them to others.
Law requires our RX containers inform us.
If it doesn't say Dont drink......then drink if you wan't to.
This having been said there is annecdotal evidence which suggests that excessive alcohol consumption reduces immunity.
Your call.

I've never been told not to drink while taking antibiotics. Mind you if you've been told that by your doctor they might be stronger than the ones I've had so you should follow your doctors instructions.
