Religion has, or more correctly had, uses. It was useful for moses when his crowd were becoming unruly. The 10 commandments were a smart move on his part. He produced some rules that he said came from god that controlled his people. It has been this way, with governments and the church misusing the philosophy to maintain power and wealth, until last century when television took over as 'the opiate of the masses'.
In a more enlightened age, the strictures of religion have produced a narrow minded group who are unable to conceive the idea that someone else may have a valid but different point of view from their own. Conflict is the inevitable result.

Who's WE?
Do I believe in religion - yes indeed, I do believe it exists. And I believe for some poeple , it is a very necessary support in their lives; some folks just absolutely need to be told what to do, what to think and what to believe. Religion keeps that burden on those who want it and off the rest of us.
Am I a religious person? Nope. Too many religions, too litttle time, too many similarities, too little inclination.
I'd say too much intelligence, but you know that's really gonna freak out the uber religious and I'll get reported by some whiner who says I offended god.
But here's a cluepon to them - if your version of god or gods - whatever that may be - is omnicient and omnipotent, he already knows what I said and what I believe. It's truly not your concern as someone who doesn't know me. Move along now.

What makes you think that most of the world's differences of opinion are due to religion?
I'm afraid that you've fallen for a secularist stereotype -- that religion (and nothing else) is the cause of all these problems in the world.
Well, I've got two bits of news for you:
a) The vast majority of the world's problems, including "polarization," have nothing to do with religion
b) The vast majority of the world's problems have causes that are secular in nature -- usually political.

I don't believe in religion (reasons later) and agree that it is a significant cause of strife, although other causes are also important. (None of the wars in the last century had religious underpinnings, although a number of earlier ones did.) It is not possible to demonstrate by either logic or evidence the existence or non-existence of god. It follows from this that no assumptions about god can lead to useful predictions, so making assertions about god is simply a waste of time.

i don't feel that the wars and turmoil that has happen since the being of time over religion would have been if there wasn't some evidence to the miracles the heals all the things written about in the Bible and on scrolls and carved in wall and being passed down through the generation, there is something to all this its the longest running debate of it being true or false....if it were false i think it would have been long time ago put to rest.

I believe in religion, and I believe in embracing and respecting the religious differences between mine and others' religions. It is not the differences that are the problem. It is believing that the differences make you right and the others wrong, and believing that your religion is the only path. I believe that other religions are just as good paths as mine, as long as they are respectful of other human beings.

Good point! organized religion though good for some as it keeps them out of trouble, has also historically and currently caused us allot of problems. I believe in goodness, kindness, and healing, I wish our world was unpolluted & peaceful and inhabbitted by respectful, open minded, loving people. I have no trust in religious leaders, and dont even get me started on Catholic preists...have a good night...

I believe that most of us are on the same path BUT the problem of polarization is due to lack of respect for other people's belief, I We can not take the high ground and think our religion is the best, it is the best for me and yours is the best for you. I have never tried to convert anyone BUT so many have tried to convert me. Respect mine and I shall respect yours that is in essence part of the Golden Rule which is due onto others as you would have them do onto you

No, I don't believe in religion but even if religion doesn't exist or cease to exist there will still be wars under different excuses
I.E. ideas, race, power, greed, "protection", terrorism and many other factors.
