A relatively minor Jewish 8 day holday but celebreated like it was Christmas in NYC and other USA big cities by modern Jews. A festival of lights based on recapturing the ancient temple.

The Feast of Lights (Feast of Dedication) is celebrated for eight days to commemorate the rededication of the Temple following the Jews' victory over occupying forces in 165 BCE, which re-established for a time their religious and political freedom. (Judaism)

I'm not Jewish, but my best friend is, and she let's me crash her Hannukah. It means the Festival of Lights. It's celebrated because there was only enough oil in the temple for one day, but it lasted 8 days because the people praised God. I don't remember all the details, but that's what I do remember.
