Also when do I give it to them? Do I also get them a Christmas present? I am in a dilemma because I have approx 8 people who are Jewish. I need ideas on what to get them. 5 are my co-workers and 3 are my neighbors who are close. Would it be wrong to give a gift card? What amount? Ideas? Thank you so much.

If you are exchanging gifts in the office on a specific day it would be appropriate to exchange Christmas and Hanukah gifts at the same time.

Choose anything you believe the person would enjoy in whatever amount you feel comfortable with. You could give the same gifts to Christians and Jews, unless of course there is a religious connotation to the item.

For the neighbors it would be very thoughtful of you to give the gift during the eight days of Hanukah instead of at Christmas. It begins this year on December 15th. All Jewish holidays begin at sunset.

Jewish people don't celebrate Christmas so it would not be appropriate to give Christmas gifts. Besides... You are already giving Hanukah gifts.

Please know that Hanukah is not traditionally a gift-giving holiday. Generations back kids would be given gelt (money). It's because of Christmas gifts that Hanukah has gotten to be a major gift holiday.

Do NOT get them somehting for Christmas, they are not Christian. And get them anything they would like, there is nothing specific. It is not wrong to give a gift card, give in multiples of 8 (the Jewish lucky number). Give it anytime during the 8 nights of Hanukah, give it to them after the candles have been lit though on the night you are giving it to them.

Bopttom line: Cards are always OK for all. Presents for close friends and sassociates. Neighbors cards are considerate and lkind. A generic wishing you a wonderful 2007 is the best with no relgious connotations.
