I've been LDS my entire life and I've never heard that even once. If they do it is news to me. However be careful, there are a lot of false notions about the what the LDS church owns. One of the most commonly repeated and most glaringly wrong is the idea that we own Pepsi Cola. That is utterly false and ridiculous.

Like the previous people have stated, the church (Mormon church) doesnt own McDonalds or Walmart or those kind of businesses, but only book stores for the church, supermarkets where people can shop for free (Deseret etc) Whether members of the church run these stores in another story, but it would have nothing to do with the church (profit wise), just the fact that members work there.

I am not sure about Safeway, but I do know that Fareway stores are owned by a group of Mormons.

No. And as someone stated, some time ago Safeway had a problem with Utah and pulled all it's stores. Oh well, they were overpriced.

My uncle was the Western regional auditor for Safe way 50 years ago and it was owned by the Mormon church.

We used to have Safeway stores in this area. I miss them. I loved shopping at them. I don't have a clue who owned them but I wish they would come back here.

i have no idea what made you ask this and i also don't know the answer but i think its funny because i knew 3 different people that worked at Safeway during different time periods and they were all Mormons

No, they do not. In fact there are no Safeway stores in Utah.

I always heard they owned Albertsons, not the church, but that the owners were Mormon.

i think i heard that about 20 years ago! i think the answer is that they own majority stock. however There are a lot of mormon industries that people done know about.
