Night is very difficult for some. There have been many studies that show that night shift workers life expand is cut short by 5 years and that they have a higher rate of cancer. This study was done on night shift nurses.

Take care of your teeth. 3rd shift workers eat more sugar to maintain energy at night and the early morning.

Also, at first it's fun, your up all day with your family and friends and up all night making money. sooner than later it catches up with you and you begin to eat the high dose of sugar to maintain.

Last, It can't help but affect your natural metabolic system. It is normal to sleep at night and up during the day, so make sure you purchase some dark curtain/shades/or a dark blanket to cover your window to trick your body into thinking it is night time at 2 in the afternoon, plus be able to close your windows because the sound of the birds makes your body think it is time to get up when you are trying to fall alseep.

Good luck.
I work nights and have been for the past 12 years because I have kids. As soon as they are all out of school, I will make every effort to return to working days !

I am currently working the night shift at a hotel and have for the last 9 months. I haven't noticed that it has affected my body much. It is more difficult to get things done, as most of the world operates on a day shift. But I wake up at 9:30pm, go to work from 11pm to 7am. I go home and take care of my 2 year old until around 2pm and then go to bed. So I'm getting enough sleep and I am active all day. The biggest problem I find is finding the right times to eat each meal. I eat breakfast with my son in the morning and lunch before we go to bed. But I never seem to manage to eat a dinner. The only other real challenge is my two days off. Because on those two nights I sleep at night and it's hard to get back into the swing when I go back to work. It's hard when you change your sleep schedule twice a week. But I don't think it is doing any harm to my metabolic system. It's just challenging.

Yes, night shift turns our body's natural cycles and timings topsy turvy and thus affect not just our metabolic system but also our health..

I have had many friends who were suffering from various problems because of their night shift. One way they tried to counteract that was to do a detox to help their body go back to balance.

I specialize in helping people detox to bring balance back to their bodies. If you are interested to find out more, you can email me at verityy@yahoo.com

Salt affects the osmotic activity of a cell. This means that when it is found in high concentrations in the cell, water moves into the cell via osmosis. This excess water moving into the cell can cause the cell to rupture. In the kidneys a similar mechanism applies. When the concentration of NaCl is high in the tubules more water is retained in the body. However, when the concentration of NaCl is low in the Kidney tubules less water is retained by the body.
