There are too many great golf courses in the USA to state that one is "the best". Certainly those posted above are great, and could challenge for the best, but many lesser-known courses provide wonderful golf too. Places like Old Silo in Kentucky or Longaberger in Ohio or and of the Trilogy courses in the west.

It also depends on the type of course you like: Links style, lots of hazards, terrain, etc.

Here's a thought, try them all and let us know the answer to your question!

Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, near San Diego. As beautiful and challenging as Pebble Beach, but at one-fifth the cost.

hard to answer this one...pebble beach is on the top of a lot of lists, just depends on what you are looking for out of a golf course, long open fairways, tight greens, or long distance holes.
