Gen 22:13
"Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son."

Am I right in thinking that if the ram had been caught by any other means would have likely marred it making it unacceptable for a sacrifice? So in my mind, being "caught by it's horns" made the incident far more deliberate than just plain caught in a thicket. A minister once told me that it was not significant but I disagree. What do you think?

GREAT QUESTION ! I agree with you but the meaning goes even deeper since the horns is what a ram fights with. The horns being where his strength lies, and of course there are passages in the bible about the horn of my salvation.....Your question really makes a person think...

The neighbor's goats were always getting caught by their horns. They'd slid their head through a small tight opening. Since their horns curved backwards when they went to pull their head back, their horns would prevent them from getting their head back out because the margin for error in removing their head from the gap was so slight.

Of course, not all breeds of sheep have the same type of horns. And it would be just as common for them to get caught by their fleece.

It just shows that the ram was available for sacrifice because it wasn't able to run away. 'Accidentally bound at the feet' might look a bit suspicious!

I agree with the minister. If it didn't have horns, it would not have been able to be caught. It's only a fairy tale anyway - so why would anyone care??
