I wouldnt give your daughter that if I were u I was having trouble in school and was told by my doctor that I had ADD and that I should take these medicines he prescribed. I cant remember the first thing of pills I was on but I remember that the pill was brown, if that helps, but those pills seemed to work for about a month or two, but I would always have these weird stomatch pains and I wouldn't feel hungry and wouldn't want to eat. So I went off those pills and was on Conserta but that only worked for one week and I would have headaches and stomatch cramps and I couldnt sleep at night, it was also effecting my memory, sometimes I would forget to take the pill and I would feel like crap all day. After that I started taking Ritalin that only seemed to work for maybe two days if that and it would have the same negative side effects as the other pills. I dont take any pills anymore and I feel alot better then when I was taking them. My dad takes Ritalin though and every time he does it wakes him right up and hes always in a bad mood, he would get mad very easily. Most of the time he doesnt even sleep, he just stays in the garage and work on 'stuff' all night. I recomend that you keep your daughter off any kinds of pills and just have her take a note pad and highlighter around with her and take down notes on things she needs to remember and never open an text book without a highlighter ready so she can highlight important facts and dates. I tell you this becuse this is what my sister does and she also has ADD an she used this method all through collage without taking any pills and she graduated on the National Deans List which is the top five in the Nation no thanks to any pills just studying and and taking notes. If you love your daughter and dont want her to suffer through any pain dont give her pills.

Daniel

P.S. Ritalin is the most abused medical drug and people die all the time from even small doses.

I was mis diagnosed with ADD and took ritalin. This is what happened to me. 1. Talked and talked and talked and couldn't stop (it was embarrasing!) 2. Could feel myself getting high then crashing as it started to wear off. 3. Lost most of my appetite but was really thirsty all the time. 4. Got quite fidgetty and couldn't sit still or focus for long periods of time. 5. Got awful headaches at the end of the day 6. Had the most bizarre, vivid and scary dreams I've ever had. 7. That was if I could even get to sleep at night - I'd often have to resort to sleeping pills. It was a vicious cycle... I hated it and ended up stopping of my own accord due to the side effects.

My daughter did take it for awhile. She did show signs of behavioral improvement. But she said she wanted to stop taking it due to the fact that it made it hard for her to sleep and she also said it gave her headaches. I think it might be a case to case kind of thing. Some things work for some kids and not others. The best thing I think you can do is talk to her doctor and watch the dosage levels. If there are too many side effects, no improvement or doesn't seem to agree with her, the doctor can either adjust the dosage or try another treatment. There are many out there. But I find that most important with my daughter's extreme ADHD was behavioral counseling to teach her to deal with her problems through behavior as well as medication. She is now 18 and off all medications and doing well.

well.. it feels as good as crack. im not joking.. they both do the exact same thing to the brain: dopamine reuptake inhibition.. i have done both, and they feel the same.

its stunts growth as all hardcore stimulants do, and it can prime the brain for addiction later in life because dopamine is what makes anything addictive... its the essence of addiction.

and no, these drugs do not work any differently in the brains of people with add/adhd. if you made a 12 year old hyper boy swallow a crack rock he would settle down and concentrate as the metabolism of his brain decreased.

adhd medications are hardcore drugs... very powerful, very addictive stimulants.

your other choices are similarly bad Adderall or dexedrine.. both are derivitives of crystal meth, and feel the same(i know).. and all increase the production of dopamine as well.

there are a few such as Cylert that do the same thing, but much less drastically.

these doctors have never taken these compounds.. and of course if you give a child an injection of crystal meth he will do better in school... thats common knowledge. so yes.. ritalin CR works. but so would cocaine or methamphetamine.

i've seen these doctors prescribe 120mg of adderell to teenage girls who are maybe a little hyper normally(arent most?)... this number may not mean anything to you, but 120mg of adderall is a massive amount.. same effectually as about $50 worth of cocaine. i cant even fathom the massive daily stimulation and stress young peoples bodies/minds are under with these potent stimulant drugs.

Oh dear lord. I took that for a period of three months, and man, I accomplished a lot of things, but, serously, it tore me up inside. Horrible depressive thoughts, and single track mindedness(is that even a word?) and the feeling that I needed no food consumed me. I lost 35 pounds, and graduated college Phi Theta Kappa, and promply went to the doctor's office and told him I wanted to die. He immediately took me off and I put the weight back on, and no longer have those feelings.

If you have any love for your daughter, I beg of you not to give that to her. From a parent's standpoint as well, she will seem like a zombie, and quite irratble as well. I mean sure she will perform well in school and at home, but ultimately it will hurt her.

Also, stange side effects occur like facial twiching (winking of dominant eye) and headaches because of clenching of the teeth and low blood sugar can happen. All in all not good. I would try counsiling or an extemely low dose of concerta.

my eldest daughter was on it from the time she was 6 until she was 12.she was terrified of flies while on it. when i lived in Texas, the Dr told me not to give it to her when she was not in school. the medication was to help calm her down to keep things she learned in school stored in her brain. my daughter has an attention span of 5 to 10 minutes. after that she don't remember things. i took her of the Ritalin because they also informed me the side affects consisted of a liver, kidney and other failures later on in life. this was back in 96. they may of improved the medication sense then. please look into it. ask questions. if they act like they are brushing you off, ask another Dr. that crap had her to where she couldn't sleep, and she was not eating right. good luck.

not really, not strong enough for me, fyi, riddlin is like legal crack, i can't believe you would allow your kid too take it, i used it for a long time for inspiration, it's the best stimulant in the world, except for adderall, are you aware how many people die from it? not overdosing either, just die. are you awar of what this does to your heart? kidneys?
