She now has signs of being old..her legs from the inside are now pink she has no more hair inside her legs and her back bone seems to be popping out,,,,,,,i was just wondering how many years does a cat live...???

Your cat is considered a "senior citizen" after 7 years old. The average longevity of cats is aorund 15-16 yrs. but cats are now living past that in great numbers becuase of better nutrition and better education that pet owners are getting these days. The oldest cat on record was 33 (or is it 34?) before she finally gave up the ghost. Persoanlly, I feel that if you take good care of your kitty, give him/her plenty of love and reason to keep on living, they will live the likngest their natural health could take them (becuase genetics also play a part in longevity). I sncerely hope that your kitty will live to past 20.

I just asked my vet the same question about my cat and he told me they live to around 9 years old. I have had 2 cats live to be 13 and then they passed away in their sleep. My mom on the other hand has a cat that is 18 years old and looks like the living dead but is still going!
Old cats do get really skinny.

There's no carved in stone answer for that question.
I had a cat that lived for almost 19 years....she died 3 days before her 19th Birthday.
With good quality food and regular Vet checkups your cat can live will into the teens if not 20's.
Another thing I'll add is that my Vet also told me that keeping your cat indoors at all times also adds years to their lives.
He said the average life span of an outdoor only unaltered female is only about 5 years, the males aren't so lucky their average life span is only 2 years.
He said for indoor/outdoor cats you could add a few years, but a cat that is kept indoors only will live twice as long as a cat that is allowed to go outdoors.

My oldest cat lived to be 19 years old. But working in the veterinary field, the oldest cat I have seen was 29 years old!!!!!! At times the cat would forget where the litter box was or where the food was . No major health problems except maybe for "forgetting things" But I think that 29 year old cat is rare, usually cats live between 12 -16 years. But just like with people gentics, diet and lifestyle has alot to do with it. Enjoy your old girl!!!

Cats can live well in to their 20's depending on their health. If they are loved, taken care of, get regular check-ups and shots, get their vitamins and not be given a lot of table food they can live a long cat life. If they are house pets and not allowed to go outside, it is even better for them because if they are outside they can pick up a lot of germs, eat something they shouldn't and catch diseases or even get hurt by other stray animals. My female cat lived over 18 years, I was happy to have had her so long. We always took good care of her. Why don't you take your cat to the vet for a check-up?

my cat who purely kicked the bucket very last 12 months lived to be 19. he became only a black and white short hair. i'd assume organic breads stay shorter lives. 10 is extremely youthful for cats - I actually have 2 different cats, 10 and 14ish. They both seem VERY youthful. i imagine the oldest cat international record holder lived to their late 30's

My vet has told me that they may reach the age of 18-20 yo, if they are well maintained. Nevertheless, past the age of 7 yo they are considered 'senior' which means the are beginning to get old starting that age. I think that a safe guess would be average 12 - 14/15 yo.

10 isn't to bad she is showing some signs of old age that my cat Gracie didn't even show at 16 years of age.Just feed her a good senior diet cat food and give her vitamins keep her inside she could give you another 10 years of love!

my cat lived till 18 years and then ran away. watch her appitite. when cats get ready to go they wont appear to you as offten and will stop eating and drinking then get very very very skinny and dissapear. this happend to me last summer with my cat cats can live up until 20 years with 25 the record. i have never had a cat die under 14 years old. enjoy your time with your kitty

15-20 years altho they have been known to live till 35
