Data still looking to become a real boy?

Would anecdotal evidence (unless his own) be enough to satisfy commander Data?

As I recall, physical evidence would fall under the category of empirical evidence (at least as I understand them as described by Kant).

These kind of questions invariably fall prey to the same problems inherent in the "does chocalate taste the same to me as it does to someone else?' or "Does the color purple really look to person x as it does to me?"

The experience of love can be many things, and is certainly personal to each individual. Some experience it as action, some as a wishy-washy romance movie, some as pain etc...and so there is no easy way to clarify, or for that matter, prove that chocalate actually exists, much less "love."

No. I can't prove that love exists, not with any scientifically acceptable proof. There is no meter to measure it, no instrument to detect it, Love is a subjective experience, it is unable to be shown to exist by scientific means, and so, the Skeptic and Atheist will declare that it does not exist.

"The most thoroughly and relentlessly Damned, banned, excluded, condemned, forbidden, ostracized, ignore, suppressed, repressed, robbed, brutalized and defamed of all Damned Things is the individual human being. The social engineers, statistician, psychologist, sociologists, market researchers, landlords, bureaucrats, captains of industry, bankers, governors, commissars, kings and presidents are perpetually forcing this Damned Thing into carefully prepared blueprints and perpetually irritated that the Damned Thing will not fit into the slot assigned it. The theologians call it a sinner and try to reform it. The governor calls it a criminal and tries to punish it. the psychologist calls it a neurotic and tries to cure it. Still, the Damned Thing will not fit into their slots." - Hagbard Celine

I experience this set of chemical reactions every single day. And I dare say that my loved ones do, too - judging by the things they've done for me, and I for them. And I'll be damned if I'm gonna get personal on this forum with examples, to 'prove' what you already know to you. You know as well as I do that there is indeed a human emotion called love, and that it's strong.

Love exists. You feel it. It is overpowering and takes you to heights you cannot verbalize. There is no "evidence" to present when something is *FELT*. Love is not a physical thing that can be presented as evidence in your court. If you do not feel it, it does not exist for you.

It exists for me.

Love doesn't have language, colour, smell etc and is the more emotional and less physical in feeling!

Parents and children - feeling love
Mother and new born baby - feeling
90 years old parents and 68 years old son - feeling
Among brothers and sisters - love
Between Husaband and wife that is love
Newly wedded ones - it is the love
Like this we have several examples inside the family

While we enter the studies:
Best friend who attends & cares you while one is sick- that is love
Best friend.
The relation between teacher and some students - love

While we look at our surrounding:
Calf and Cow... Love
Cat and kitten Love
Dog and puppies - love
Among birds they have love...

Love exists. There have been studies that show changes in chemicals in the brain when it happens. Some feel it and act on it. Some deny it. Some never find it.

Love is a feeling..
I have used this in explanations before.

I feel love .. you cant tell I'm in love you only know because we have been taught to associate the word with feelings that this is what this feeling relates to this word = love.

much like fear.. you know that feeling you get it and people tell you its fear.. so you again associate it with the word = fear.

I cant prove that i love or fear something.
I can only express that i have the same sort of feelings when this situation comes around.
You can only believe me because assuming you might also have these feelings and associations with these words that you understand.

So its really asking me to prove people have feelings.
And i belive they do.

Have you reduced "Love" to this?

You need supported evidence to substantiate this emotion?

My answer is....no explanation should be required....we've all seen it and we've all felt it.
