Jealous of the One who is not a God (of power several magnitudes above gods), but has been before the dawn of gods, and will still be there after Yahweh's universe or any other god's universe have long collapsed, now and forever.

Dear Lone,
Because the God who created us, has created us as creatures who have a need to worship.
And many people have chosen to worship things that are not God.
This is why God was angered when the Israelites created a golden calf and began to worship it.
The commandment against not worshipping other Gods testifies to the uniqueness of the one true God. There are many things that people can worship: (ie: people worship animals, etc. and this is offensive to the Lord) but there is only one true God!!!
The commandment is to remind the people of who He is. The Bible tells us that people have made gods of their own imagination and how often do we see people today- spouting off their beliefs about God- without some kind of solid basis that is not based on personal opinion.
Hope that helps,
Nickster

Firstly, God is not jealous because this is a human quality of imperfection. God is not flawed, God is Greatest. The reason that God commands that we not worship other gods is because only He Alone exists and only He Alone created us and fashioned us. Monotheistic religions Jews, Christians, and Muslims all believe in the same God. However, there are some that follow the scriptures purely and there are some who distort the truth and divide against themselves. But as servants to God we must break away from this sinful habit of becoming sectarians and fundamentalists. We must instead follow the laws of God based in Holy scriptures and stop trying to change things to suit our worldly needs.

Very simply the Bible explains at 1 Corinthians 8:4-6:
'4 Now concerning the eating of foods offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one. 5 For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.'
So, as some others have already answered, there is only one TRUE God. But that doesn't stop people from making gods out of other things. As we were created with the need to worship, a "spiritual need," as it is put in Matthew 5:3, those who are unfamiliar with the word of God as of yet or who choose to ignore it still have a need to worship SOMETHING. Some entire cultures have created gods, while others worship themselves, their "bellies," (Philippians 3:19), sports or whatever else people devote their time to in place of God.

Exactly at least you read, the secret is in the preface to the bible it says where king james and his scribes put god it was originally YHWH which is a tetragrammaton (a word w/out vowels) but is pronounced with the vowel sounds YAHWEH it wasnt until after the church infiltrated the yahdaim that the w had a v sound. no one is supposed to worship gods and every one should be keeping all 613 laws in the torah and nowhere in scripture does it contadict that i dont care how people try to twist it 1 TWISTED VERSE DOESNT CANCEL OUT 100s OF OTHER VERSES THAT SAY TO KEEP THE LAW!!!

GOD create human with the 2 (two) purposes, TO WORSHIP HIM and TO MAKE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with HIM. When 1st Human Fall into Sin, They were tempted by the "evil" ,Gen 3:5 "God understands what will happen on the day you eat fruit from that tree. You will see what you have done, and you will know the difference between right and wrong, just as God does", JUST AS GOD DOES, to be at the same level as GOD. it's written that She (Eve) wanted the wisdom that it would give her. After the FALL all the purposes is Changes....
the original Purpose :
GOD is worshiped by Human
fall into Sin :
human want as the same level as GOD, or we can say
HUMAN is GOD
thus the fall purpose is :
HUMAN is GOD is worshiped by Human
So If you asking me, why is written that I AM A JEALOUS GOD! It's because There's other GOD in Man's Hearts, which is not GOD YHWH, but him/herself as the person they Worshiped... and if it's not him/herself, the Fall human will choose other things that became IDOL of the hearts which is WEALTH, POSITION, SEX.
There's no other GODs, but HuMan make it... and Sin destroy all the relationship between Man and GOD... that's why HE is Jealous!

A God is anything you put before God the Father. Anything you worship or care for more than God. It could be a car, a house, your wife, anything you put before God he is jealous. He made you. You need to consider that.
Just like your parents may tell you the old saying. I brought you into this world and I can take you out.
Well God did, and He can, and He Will and he is, when He decides to.

in context! where the verse says that God can be jealous it is talking of Idolatry.
and in the worlds history, there have been false gods in the world basically because fallen angels show up to humans and start weaving TALEs of deception and mortal men believe they are communing with gods. If a man turns away from the true God, it will hurt His passions, emotions and feelings, but his love is still ever in existence

A person can worship a rock, that makes it a god in the eyes of the worshipper, hence God said "no other gods". Doesn't mean the rock is actually a god!
