The only thing you will have to pay for is the navigation unit itself, whether its a plug in play, in dash, or software with a laptop. After that you pay nothing, there is no monthly fee or anything like that, unless you want some of the extra features that some units have (i.e. xm traffic). Hope this helps.

If it is built into the car you only pay for it when you buy the car and there is no fee for using a gps. If it is part of a system like Onstar (General Motors cars) then there is a monthly fee for the service.

some of the newer cell phones have gps this is so that when you call 911 they can find you (if you need help and can not talk) no the gps service is not a subscribers service it is a signal from the satelight to the phones (cells) or a nave system.
some what like the transponders on a plain it just tells the sat.. where you are so it can help you find your way...

GPS is free --pay for the unit and that's all----you may have heard of lo-jack or Navistar and those have a monthly/yearly fee .. Use some caution about letting other people know that is in your car The auto theives are looking for technical stuff to steal -----JUST word to the wise.....wc

No. Its also usable at night and in rainy cloudy weather. Since the signal is being beamed to your receiver from multiple satelites. I use it to set my cruise control all the time.

dude, GPS is free for use, I am using it and I can tell u it is free. however, please note that the signal is not clear under the bridge or underpass
