I am a travel agent!

There are a number of airline you can use, but WHERE in Canada is an important question. Canada is a big country! If you are going to Vancouver, Cathay Pacific will have simple connections via Hong Kong. Eslewhere could be a little more complicates, but Japan Airlines might be an option. Air China may have service to Toronto via Bejing.

If you are willing to change airlines, really not a difficult or uncommon thing in international travel your options expand exponentially. Take Malaysian Airlines to Bejing or Tokyo change and Air Canada will have non-stop flights to Vancouver, Toronto and perhaps Montreal. you could also fly Malaysian to Los Angeles and connect to Air Canada flights to Calgary and Edmonton in addition to the 3 cities I noted before.

Best choice from Malaysia to Canada would most likely be CX. Cathay Pacific via HKG. Most direct from KUL/PEN to YVR or YYZ. Other choice would be SQ via SIN. Both require only one change of aircraft and both at their home base. I wouldn't recommend KE - Korean Air as again, they have dreadful connection timings.

To MattCan - I am not diffusing your options as suggestions for person asking question - but you have to consider what the connections are from Malaysia. Air China and JAL have terrible connection times to Canada. Most have to have at least a 9-10 hour connection with nothing to do at either PEK or NRT airports. And it won't do poster any good to go into town as he/she needs a visa to enter China or Japan.

AC also has higher fares than CX from Malaysia as AC needs to interline with MH anyway - at HKG or NRT. AC does not interline or have fares with any other carrier from Malaysia.

No use checking with online travel services as ex-Malayisa is MPF. Market Pricing fares controlled by the travel agents' association of Malaysia and you may only obtain such fares from travel agents.

FYI - I have been a travel agent for 20 years.. in both Canada and Malaysia! Not to mention, US, Australia and UK !

PS to asker - if you hold Malaysia passport - you must obtain your visa first before paying for your ticket. You may book it first , and get an itinerary to show Canadian High Commission when applying for your visa.
