Why so much hostility towards each other? Why the disrespect? They are both religions. You can't say "I know there is no God". There is evidence he doesn't exist, but there is also evidence he does. But there is no proof either way. How can you call each other stupid? "Evolution is true, therefore God does not exist.” It is possible to believe in evolution and creation. Evolution does not disprove creation. Believing in something you cannot see is not ridiculous. So why the disrespect towards each other?

It's not Christians and Atheists.

It's fundie xians and militant atheists. (I suppose you could call me a militant atheist, because I'm guilty of the hostility and disrespect at times when dealing with xians of the fundie variety). I don't mind christians as a rule (Or Muslims or Jews, or any other religion). I believe faith is a personal thing and everyone has to follow their heart, but the moment they start trying to push their religion on others, or condescend to anyone who doesn't believe what they do, it gets my back up and sometimes the claws come out.

Atheism is not a religion. It is a lack of belief in a supernatural being, or god.

Religion: noun - A framework of beliefs relating to supernatural or superhuman beings or forces that transcend the everyday material world.

If there was imperical evidence that god existed, there would be no need for faith.

Faith: noun - Aceptance of ideals, beliefs, etc., which are not necessarily demonstrable through experimentation or reason

It has nothing to do with evolution or creation. The fact is - god doesn't exist until there is substantiated proof that he does. Until then, there is no god. There is only faith that one exists. The burden is upon those that believe he's real to prove he exists. Not the ones that says he doesn't.

I do not subscribe to the idea of faith.

Evolution (which is now proved) does not disprove creation, but it does render the concept unnecessary. It is not possible to prove either that god exists or does not exist (nor is there any evidence either way), but this very fact leads to proof that belief in god is useless. Believing in something you cannot see may not be ridiculous, but believing in something which cannot have an effect on you is.

Christianity is a religion. Being an Atheist doesn't mean you're religious. It means that you aren't. Wouldn't you consider evidence of something proof? There is evidence of Jesus, but none of miracles by Jesus. Not all atheists believe that seeing is believing. You can't see love necessarily. You can see the result of love. Christians can't accept Atheists because most Christians aren't exactly open-minded toward other religions and ideas that opposes their own. I don't believe in the Christian religion, but if others want to that's fine with me, that's their own choice.

As starwood said, atheism is the absence of religion. And I do detest the disrespect people have towards one another. But what I do want to say is that I am sick and tired of Christians saying that this, this, this was said in the Bible and that, that, that was quoted in the Bible. Why do they just take everything in the Bible as true?

I'm not christian and I'm not atheist. I'm a mix of both. I agree with you, evolution does not prove that god doesn't exist, or vice versa. I believe that god created life using evolution. When people ask me what I believe I usually say I'm atheist, but that isn't entirely true. I believe humans and other animals have souls. I don't know what happens after you die, but I'd like to believe in idea of heaven. I recently lost several members of my family, and the idea that I might get to see them again is comforting. I believe in god, just not the christian idea of god.
I'm a mix of the two beliefs and I have no problems with either.

They are NOT both religions. I just got done answering another question the same way: the xtians are trying to take over my country and would like nothing better than to see America turned into an xtian theocracy. Why should I be kind to TURNCOATS?

you think you are clever, calling atheism a religion.
there is no evidence that god does exist. you are making that up. the burden of proof is on the christians, and they have no evidence whatsoever.

believing in something you cannot see is ridiculous, by the way.
