I'm sorry but SOME of these answers you got....are just WRONG!!! I hate when I see people tell you HOW you should raise your children...My son has had a tv in his room since about birth~He's almost 6 yrs old...(tv was in there BEFORE He was!!) the sound of it was the white noise he needed to sleep through the night...we use a fan! BUT I found it easier to have the tv in his room with a VCR or DVD player...he has TONS of DIsney Movies and Power Ranger ones..that he LOVES to watch! I'm just glad that I can turn on the tv and KNOW I can watch the news or something that I want to...cause my toddler watches Dora the Explorer and I can't take the sounds from THAT show anymore!(Having the tv in their rooms...makes it easier to shut the door and let them have their 30 minutes of THEIR TIME!!! SO I'm not walking around all day singning Dora the Explorer show tunes!

I think it is... At that age kids are really starting to develop their imaginations and that part of their mind that helps them think outside the box to solve problems. TV impedes that ability, and the growth of that part of the mind. If they spend all day watching TV their minds and their bodies will atrophy. It will become customary for them to get bored an decide they need a television to entertain them and keep themselves occupied. At that point in life you should restrict the amount of TV they're allowed to watch so they can maximize their own potential. Give them fun puzzles and hands on activities, that make them work together and individually so they can begin to understand the value of working together and the values of being a close knit family unit. It will stimulate their intellect, and get them used to healthy physical activity and turn them off to sitting around and doing nothing simply because there is nothing that needs immediate attention. It will make them happier and more mentally stable and increase their comprehensive skills. Keep them away from the TV as much as you can. Try to instill the mindset that television is only supposed to be a last resort for entertainment, 'cuz if you try to make it so they think it's only a special privilege for when you are good, they will associate watching television with things that are good and should be done more often, neither of which is true.

It really does depend on you, your children, how much tv they already watch, etc.

My daughter has had a tv in her room since she was about 4. It was because we thought the tv was going bad on the big old console we had in the family room so we put it in her room and bought a new tv for the family room. Surprise, the new tv still had tons of snow on the picture like the old one. Come to find out our cable box under the house was half way under water. So we just left the old console in her room and she watched videos on it.

As she got older we got a newer tv since the console did finally die. My daughter is now 13 and the thing with her is she doesn't sit there and stare at the tv 24/7 like some of her friends do. She mainly watcheds tv in the family room and once in a while she'll go in her room to watch a video or dvd. Some of her friends don't have tv's in their room because their parents have said that the kid just sits in front of the tv totally clueless to what is going on and they know it would be worse if there was a tv in their room - they'd never see their child. But my daughter is very good about it and I've always monitored what she watched, and like I said she mostly watched tv in the family room as she likes to be around people and not cooped up in her room by herself.

It's really a judgement call that you need to make. If you set the rules at the very beginning you may not have any problems. But remember, if you do, you need to be stern about taking away tv priviliges in the bedroom.

Hope this helps! Good luck in your decision!

It makes it a lot hard to monitor what they are watching and make sure that it is appropriate for them. Have you ever read any articles on sleep disorders and how to deal with them? An article on webmd.com about how to get a good night's sleep says: "Keep your bedroom for s** and sleeping. If you can't sleep or if you wake up in the middle of the night, go into another room and read a book or watch television until you feel sleepy. " This is something for all ages. Think about whether putting a tv in their room at all is setting them up for bad sleeping habits.

Yes! In my opinion (and the American Academy of Pediatrics agrees) kids should NEVER have TVs in their bedrooms. Even with teenagers you might think they are "old enough" but that's when they could really start watching bad stuff or watching all the time or whatever.

I think so. My family let me watch TV since I was 6 anytime I wanted to. I had to wear glasses since 8. Also, there're a lot of inappropriate shows that you don't want the kids to turn it on and watch especially without you. I really recommend only DVD like cartoons allowed for kids this young. Or a bookshelves will be even better!

Yes! What is the use of a TV in someone's room? They can watch it elsewhere! The bedroom is for sleeping and reading in!

Yes. TV watching should be regulated by a responsible parent, and you can't do that very well if the kids have a TV in their rooms. You shouldn't allow your child to watch as much TV as he/she wants, just as you wouldn't allow him/her to eat nothing but candy. Give them a time limit, such as one or two hours a day. Try to have family game time instead, or reading time, or toss them a ball in the yard -- anything other than sitting like zombies in front of the TV. They will be much better off if you do this, they will be better students, and your family will be a closer family with happy kids.

You have to be very careful and monitor or lock certain channels. My five year old has always had a t.v. in her room. I lock all channels except Nick and Disney. You do what you feel is right. If you raise your children to know what is right and wrong, than you will do fine. One thing though, too much t.v. will make them lazy. I had to seriously cut my child's time back because she didn't even like going to the museum or aquarium because it was "boring." Children need to explore and get fresh air also.

WOW! I gotta say, I'm totally suprised how many people say no. My kids have always had t.v. in their rooms. When they were lil they would turn on a cartoon channel (like Barney, sesame st. etc.) U just have to limit the time they r watching andif ur sure they can't watch things that they shouldn't be. My kids always get 1/2 hr. at night in bed to watch then have to go to sleep.
