I would like to try to get to know someone who is fairly shy, what are some good conversation starters? Maybe some funny topics that will lead into easy conversation?

well shy ppl will open up
once they feel comfortable around you
start by getting to know them
ask about school, work, etc, and try relating to them
have them explain things
and just keep them talking for as long as you can

Be careful, shy ones usually the worst ones as they say, the quite ones are the worst ones, just because a person is shy dont mean they are right for you and will satisy you, there could be many reasons for shyness, like maybe insecurity, hidden agendas, guilt, ruthless even etc, just treat them as you would anyone, but if you are really that bothered in knowing that person then just be yourself, ask them questions like what they are into, ask them opinions of things, (current affairs, sports, etc) get to know them as you would like say a mate when you was a kid, but other then that dont put too much focus on shyness, be careful and alert, for far as you know that person can be dangerous, manipulative, but then again can be kind, caring genereous, but that does not mean one has to be shy to be this, so i say again just be youself and talk to them as how you would normally to someone., PEACE"".

Try to find out from other people some things that this person is interested in. It's hard to get shy people to open up (I used to be really shy). Be prepared if at first the person doesn't talk much. But if you find what they are interested in you should be able to get them talking! Remember not to come on too strong or loud...that sometimes scares us shy folks;)

Just ask a bunch of questions...It doesnt matter what they are...It just shows that you are interested. Hobbies, sports, favorite movie, tv shows, books that have been read, thing studied in school, vacation, ect

the guy i liked was really really shy, i got to know him by talking about how "cool" his best friend was...even though i hated him. so just say something like "hey did you talk to blah blah blah yesterday...?"
or if you have the same teacher/class you could ask them something about when something is due [this always works]

something she/he likes will make her/him feel more at home and may encourage her/him to speak about what she/he enjoys, don't push her/him and smile when your in her/his company, its great to have a friendly face around.

keep talking to them and being sincerely nice. you have to be sincere about it, and they will eventually open up to you.
