I have one computer with problems in starting the windows. I tried to reboot, reinstall from different MS XP CDs of many friends and failed. I erased and formatted the HD and repeated the process and failed again. The MS XP CDs which have been used were all floating non-genuine copies. Now as I purchased the new sealed genuine MS windows xp, would you think this will solve the problem and will startup the windows? In future if I will experience the same problem so will I need to use this latest CD sololey to reboot this PC?

Ok ever think the hard drive might be bad? Maybe the cd-rom is messed up.Also legitimate copies of windows are suggested and burnt cd's are frowned upon. However that being said id look into the hard drive being damaged. Sounds to me like the boot sector of the disk may be damaged.

Is the installation successful, did u note any abnormal message during the installation? If the installation is successful, what is the problem symptom? Did the MS Windows logo never show up or it just hangs during the hardware diagnostic process?

This will solve your problem. After the installation, install the latest service pack and then run Windows Update.

It probably won't as with un genuine copies you are only restricted to not getting the updates. It sounds like a bad hard drive. Hard drives are fairly cheap now, and keep you genuine copy, it is alot more secure.
