God didn't ban idol worship. God Himself (or Herself, if you prefer) didn't actually write any of the Bible. Therefore, the guy who wrote that particular "commandment" is the person (or at least a member of the group) who banned idol worship. It is commonly believed that Moses was the author, but most modern scholars believe that at least 5 different authors are responsible for the parts of the Bible attributed to Moses.

No, He is a god. Idols are things that people worship, but do nothing. This would be like me buying a statue and worshiping it so my crop will grow more than before. This is an idol because it will not do anything. God is not an idol because he is a god. He is God.

God doesn't ban anything. You're free to do what you want just as you're free to smoke 10 packs of cigarettes a day, eat mcdonalds, and jump off a 10000 foot cliff if you want, but with choice comes responsibility, and if you worship idols, such as money, you may not always like what the results are.

"I mean, who defines idol?"
You are defining idol right now. Who are you to define idol? You are defining idolatry as worshipping God rather than yourself.
God defines idol as any person or thing in which we find greater pleasure than God. That is idolatry. God is the greatest good, therefore he alone is worth worship. To worship anything else is not only wrong, it is criminal. All fallen humanity is in a state of idolatry, and our favorite idol is ourself. So a better question is why would you worship yourself, a fallen sinful creature, when there is a morally perfect being who alone is worth worship?

Your question makes no sense. If He is not an idol and He has banned idol worship, then where is the problem?

God is not an object, God is not a person.
You cannot even begin to fathom his greatness, nor can I.
In the bible it says.. "God Is Love"
You can see his brilliance in a flock of birds flying over the interstate, dancing in the air. The seas roar. The trees sway.
Everything is for his glory.
Because without him we are nothing. Think about that for a minute. Not here- nothing. Never happened.
He is our creator and he gives us a chance to really seek him and just have peace in him.
I pray that you will find it.

I think the point was that there shouldnt be any other idols. Atleast if you want to look at the bible literally. Which unfortunately people tend to do.

The definition of idol:
a representation or symbol of an object of worship;
God is not a representation or symbol - He's the real deal.
