If the human brain is numbed for something like surgery, it does not live for the time that it is numbed. So what on Earth makes us believe that long after it turns back into dust that our thoughts or soul live on? I can see it is a GREAT DESIRE, but it is not rooted in any kind of fact.

It is weird that you asked that question. I was talking with someone about 15 minutes ago about the same thing..

So what on Earth makes us believe that long after it turns back into dust that our thoughts or soul live on? the part about our thoughts not living on as well as our minds just ceasing to think, to reason, to wonder, anything.. nothing

that is a very deep thought. (and very good one too) it takes a deep mind

You are ignorant if you think the brain is dead when it is numbed for surgery It is still alive. A person only dies one time. Near death is not death. If we have a soul I would agree that it may very well live on for eternity. I'm not sure that we have a soul. There is no way of proving that we have a soul. So it is just a matter of belief. As I am an Atheist I don't believe there is a soul. But of course Christians and most religions believe there is. I am a Christian Atheist so I think everyone should be allowed to believe as they please. God bless kisses Betty.

Perhaps your understanding of what the soul is needs to be redefined. Our mind or intellgnce is only a part of the triune soul.
Our will and our emotions are all very real and can act independantly at times from our intellegence.Checkout normal and abnormal phsycology.

the day I encounter the creator of all souls the truth sets you free

Limited experiences can give us a limited veiw and unfortunatly main stream ideology tries to deter us from any thoughts outside of our own temporal existance and rational.

Sounds all wordy but the simple truth is this

After having a few surgeries in my life I can tell you... you certainly can dream when anesthetized. At least 3 of the 5 times I've been put under, I dreamt

Ones soul does not dwell in ones brain, its stationed in ones heart, and since its a spirit it could even be seen as an aura. A person is not cognicent when they sleep either, so you don't need modern medicine to use this argument.

under anesthesia our brain is still functioning. not learning but still alive. a person is not effectively dead under anesthesia nor is their brain , you are misinformed. and who says that thought is proof of a soul, sentience is not the soul. life is not the soul. the core of us that makes us ourselves, is the soul. and without environmental factors i believe each human is still created with a basic personality and sense of self.
