I'm reading online about the hiring process and after all the background checks and physical and mental exams, you have to complete the Job Standard Test which consists of running and jumping over a 6 foot wall, dragging a victim, firing an inoperative firearm and some other running around tasks. Does this part happen before you get taken into the Academy? I don't even know how to go about training for something like this on my own...such as getting good at surmounting a 6 foot barrier. Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated! I'll be applying for the NYPD.

I don't know about the test for the NY PD but in N.M. you must pass the coopers standard physical test at 60% to enter the academy but that doesn't mean you will make it. In my class only 40% made it and most of the ones that didn't was because of the physical and physiological stress so i advise you to get in as god shape as you can and have your personal life squared away.

It happens before you are hired, not everyone doing it will be hired.

No there is no offical training for it, beyond knowing you have to do it and getting into physcial shape.

The 6 foot wall is easy, ( with till it is a 10 foot one)

you grap the top and throw your legs over is easy,

It is part of the test, the training is more gruesome.
