Are you kidding me? Children who are poor students may have issues you don't know about "Thuggy" or whoever you are. Like vision or hearing problems, abuse, hunger, learning disabilities, social problems. Why don't you go serve since you are so worried about it?

No, they should be kept in GED classes until at least 21 if that is what it takes, or else they can't get good jobs even when they come back from the service. Our country is failing the education of students and it's a combination of bad schools administrations, bad teachers and bad parents, the first step is to eliminate teachers "tenure", you might better send bad teachers into hostile enviroments than poor students. The last thing our military needs when it is trying to build relations not only with foreign people speaking a different language but with an alien mindset, is people in uniform who are deficient in basic skills themselves. Our job is to help build a better world, not kill anyone who doesn't kiss our butt, that is the enemy's mentality. To ad to the insult of a poor eduction by putting America's young in harm's way, and offering them a burger flipping job when they get back home because they have no degree is just indefensable.

by your question, i can see that you are not in the military. there is no such thing as a 1 year enlistment. the shortest term of enlistment is 3 years for all branches. you would go to basic training, then to advanced school, then be assigned to a regular unit based on the specialty that you have. once all that is done, you might get sent to iraq with your unit. once that time is up, you rotate back to the states or wherever, and resume normal activities. once your enlistment is up, you are free to do and go wherever you want, with exceptions of course. you cannot just turn in your gear and say "see ya" and walk off into the desert. in order to stay in iraq after your enlistment is up, you will need to apply for a visa to stay just like every other country. even then, they have the option of extending the visa or send you back to the states.
