I used to go to church but my pastor condemmned me because i smoke, I tried to explain to him that it was gods place to judge me for what i do not his but he just shunned me and told me i was going against god. he also tied into me for watching a so called "new age" movie. I don't believe the things in the movie I just found it entertaining, I quit going to church now I think that god knows how I feel he doesn't need me in church to prove it to him. I'm a good person i care about others and treat other people as well as i can so why is the pastor so anal about the whole thing?

I know how you feel. It really hurts to hear the truth.

Why is everyone against the Pastor. The Pastor is right The body is the temple of the Lord. And of course he speaks for God when he says smoking is wrong and God doesn't want people to smoke. Smoking is a filthy habit it is harmful to your body and harmful to the people around you who have to breath your filth. You should be on your knees praying for forgiveness and asking God to help you quit that filthy habit if you are so week that you cant quit on your own. Be a man admit you are wrong return to church and apologize to your Pastor and ask him to take you back. That's my advice of course you may not want my advise I'm an Atheist but I'm a Christin Atheist. God bless kisses Betty.

The Pastor feels that he is God's voice on earth and it is his job to pass judgments....I quit going to church and have pretty much lost my religion for much the same reasons...I believe there is a god I'm just not very religious about it..as long as you still have your faith don't worry about it..Go out in the woods somewhere and worship god there at least he put the trees there. The Pastor can't say the same for his church

a pastor should know better judge not lest ye be judged , I really don't think God cares if you smoke although it has become socially unacceptable in the past 10 years or so its not really a matter for Religion , some beliefs like Moremon as far as I'm aware feel it is a sin due to the way that tobacco can harm the body and cause cravings , but i think thats similar to the issue of pork in some relgion in it more realtes to protection and longevity of the followers of those faiths , I have always believed a man who can become a monk and give up all his wordly desires and belongings is a deeply relgious man but the man That can find God without having to deny himself the freedoms of life is truely one with God

Because in his position he might not want to condone any sin, as feeble as it may seem. He is perhaps just being upright. Repeatedly the Bible tells us not to mingle with sin, but to run from it. If your pastor was following that scripture, even if it seems anal, it should deserve compliments and not ridicule. Too many pastors today say, "oh you do this type of sin???? Well..... I promise I wont mention it or dispute it, so please come to church". I got into some sin and what my church did was really cool - instead of condemning me or approving of me, they simply sent me two cards signed by everyone telling me they are praying for me and love me. I thought that was the coolest thing a church can do because I was really beating myself up for what happened, and for the church to still love me really proved to me that it is a good church.

Maybe he saw it from the whole 'vice' perspective. That vices take to much of our time up that could be spent praising God and what not. But I can't say that I blame you for being weirded out. Maybe you could just find another church to go to. People should not leave churches b/c of bad preachers, it is about cultivating a community. Pastors come and go, but you want your church to last. But if you truly can't stand being there while he is there for an undetermined amount of time, find a new place of worship.

smoking is not good for a person. That said if a person starts smoking today knowing how bad it is for you then, there is sin attached but, several people started smoking way back when it was not reported so heavily how bad it really is . Once the habit has set in though it diminishes the will to the extent that it is harder to fight against the temptations so at that point the sin factor is lessened as long as a person still tries to quit. When you think about it it damages your health, it uses up money that is always better spent in other areas and people begin committing other sins because of that.

Find another church--- I'm Catholic and I thank God I have two girls instead of little boys-----you get my drift---- they are HUMAN and only are a "representation" of holy, they are not really "holy", only God himself is Holy, so either find another church with a pastor who is less condemning or go back to the same church and dont discuss such issues with him. And by the way, YOU ARE a better person than your pastor is, and you should not allow him to keep you from going to church. Amen.

i have read most of the answers before i deceided to answer, i did this just to see what people would tell you. some of the answers made sense and some didn't. yes, pastors are human and they make mistakes just like you and me. the pastor is not only responsabile for himself, but also for the people that GOD has allowed him to pastor. he is to teach them the WORD OF GOD. not to dictate their lifestyle. you need to be taught the WORD OF GOD, you cannot just sit down and automatically know what the bible says. i know this about you because you are talking about quitting church. ( hebrews 10:25 tell you different ) so use you head before you react to anything and keep things in the right order. bless you.

becareful how you define what a man of God is.!!!
first of all to be a holy man of God is still not the same thing, neither is ONE who professes to know the truth, the same thing.
as for Rated "R" movies and New AGE occultism. I agree with you. entertainment is/can be innocent to those that are pure. All things are legal. God is not offended in anything! except when a person does not give him thanks.
I quit going to church because of several things that happened to me. None of it was sin in me! my sins never kept me from going to church. However there is a CRAFT of sorceries in the world and many people call it "righteousness" to Heal. but such majicks destroy the mind and body just as readily as anything else. in my opinion these secret "combinations" cause most of the mental illness in the world without being possessed of demons.
Why is/was your pastor so anal? it can be summed up as a lack of spiritual growth and maturity and has to do just as MUCH with cultural traditions and Moral Majority Mind Control.
until a man Comes face to face with God, or JESUS christ, one cannot understand the MIND of christ when He showed how much love he has for us when he submitted to the will of HIS Father and did the Mel Gibson thing. when at any time He can call on legions of angels and this earth would be destroyed in an hour. In truth, He says vengence is mine, ONLY, and i believe only 1 or 2 people who caused the suffering of christ were destroyed with such vengeance.

That my friend is one of the many reasons I do not go to church. Why should I sit there and listen to people preach at me for doing something I enjoy or like to do. What I do or don't do is between me myself and I. And I personally don't give a darn what ANY ONE else thinks.
