I have a major tension problem and most of it goes to my neck. I go to a masouse twice a month and can't really afford more than that. I try to calm myself down, but it gets really hard to get my body to listen. It causes headaches, insomnia at times and it may be causing another health problem. I am even tense in my sleep...I wake up with a clenched, sore jaw every morning. What can I do to help myself?

Seeing your doctor may be a good first step. You might also experiment with different kinds of pillows to determine whether your neck problems etc are related to that.

First things first. You are describing only symptoms. Modern medicine is designed to treat them as opposed to curing the illness or problem. You can too, by buying meds or going to your massouse. But inorder to prevent this from occuring again you must locate the source of your symptoms.

Whatever you focus on the most in your discomfort, is where you need to begin your journey to health & relaxation. What is it that is burning in your heart, your soul, your mind? Something is causing you great harm. This is what you will need to make a decision on.

Once you have chosen a path, do not deter from this path, only make sure the new path, or direction, is a healthy & wise choice, non harmful to you or your souorce of discomfort. More of a release.

You know what your problem is yet you allow it to control your body & mind. Seek release & elevate yourself above this problem. Gain a higher ground. Take a fresh mental stance. Become what good health is. You and only you can achieve this as you begin to watch the problem wither & sulk alone. Soon the problem will waste away from nothing to feed upon.

Anything else?

You need to thoroughly audit yourself and see what went wrong with you. The reason of depression and anxiety is mostly your experiences with growing up. You might be in a situation when you start feeling withdrawn. nobody likes you, you are deprived of attention.
This is just a mental condition, chemical imbalances in your body may cause this. Conventional medication will have some pills available but most importantly it need a mind conditioning. Look around and see everyone likes you. Patience is the virtue. Relax your mind. Mind can see an overall and clear picture when it is at ease. use breathing techniques. Most of the time in depression and anxiety your muscles are tight and blood in not flowing. Breathing and letting it go will relax your body. Bring it to normal and you'll be able to control yourself. It is very easy to be said but utmost difficult to practice. You may learn over the time to learn with it until you feel fully cured. Remember you can cure within yourself if you can concentrate and be aware of your body and its pain, then knock it off. Get angry at yourself and tell yourself that you don't want to be like this. Allah Bless!!

My father has the same problem (lower back also). When he adjusted his posture, his back and neck did not hurt as much. (Simple things are how you sit - if at a computer the monitor should be as high as your head; if standing put back against a wall until flat and then try walking. Lastly Yoga can be a good way to loosen up your muscles.).

"A desire to be in charge of our own lives, a need for control, is born in each of us. It is essential to our mental health, and our success, that we take control."
