And with a bichon frise (who is about 2feet long). I've never flown before, so i'm really scared about flying. But, My dad says it will be safe and easier for him and for us to fly back instead of driving 10-13 hours back home.I really don't want to get in an airplane but i want to do what's easiest for my dad. Anywho. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what their experiances were like on a plane and if you could give me some advice to stay calm if we do have to go on a plane.. Thank you.

Chicken Boy (from Florida) has never and will never fly. I'd rather walk. But a friend of mine has flown many times and says there's nothing to worry about.

Flying on a plane is actually statically safer then driving (see link). After flying an obscene amount of miles (I work for a major airline) my suggestion is to just relax, and have something w/ you to keep your mind off of flying. The only "scary" parts are takeoff and landing, which are really only a steep climb / decent. Otherwise it pretty much feels like a car ride.

While this doesn't necessarily calm you down or make you have less anxiety, you can always try a few drinks to calm the nerves or if it's really bad a doc can prescribe something for you.

Just relax! Riding a plane is a wonderful experience. I usually buy new magazines before my trip to kill time. Its just riding a car or Amtrak. If you dont want to stay near the window, you can exchange places with your brother but I tell you its my favorite spot. It is just once in your life that you get this opportunity. Instead of seeing the bad things, see the other side of the coin. There are better things in life to see. One thing good is that you are with your father & brother.
When I made my first trip to the USA last year. I was all alone & preparing for my exam. On my way home this May, my father is in the ICU but I still remained calm. The Lord has some reasons for our life.
Next time you will have regrets because you hadnt tried it earlier in your life! Bring chewing gum with you & try chewing as you leave & go near your destination. Our ears usually adjust also.
Just be sure that your baggages meet requirements with regards with the weight. Handcarries are usually put on placed on top of your chair. Just like the ones in the bus, except that it is enclosed. There is also a comfort room.
Goodluck & have a nice time!

Fear of flying is pretty common, so you are not weird. :-) I have a lot of clients who deal with it. Some of them tell me they prefer an aisle seat so they dont have to look out of the window. Keeping yourself distracted is a good idea. If its a large plane they may have an in flight movie. If you have an I-pod or portable CD player you can bring that and listen to music, or even a relaxation cd. If the fear is overwhelming you might be able to get some medication to help.

On a personal level, I fly all the time. This year I have gone to South America, Florida, the United Kingdom twice and am going back to South America in December, all for personal travel. I understand your discomfort, as flying is something totally new to you, but seriously, its a great way to travel. I love it. Since your dog is small you can probably have him in the cabin with you in a carry on under the seat. Your dad will be with you. I know it probably doesnt help to say this, but you are a lot more likely to be killed in a car than on a plane. The flight attendants are nice. Tell them you are nervous, and I bet they will be even nicer!

PS dont expect to get fed! You can bring food on board now, so get something you really love and look forward to eating

I just flew a week ago with my mom who had never flown before. It's not bad at all. Just take some gum with you cuz it will make your ears pop alot. Just take a book or a puzzle book. Or try to sleep. My mom liked it so much that she wants to fly again. Don't worr, security is very tight and nothing will happen.

i just flew with the family to Disney just in august and the kids are 5 and 6 and they never flew before and they were fine. i haven't flown for about 8 years before that and the worst part is taking off and then landing. it's not really bad, though. the kids thought it was okay.

flying is safer than driving, what's there to hit in the air? planes won't be close enough to hit you.

i pray with the family before we take off, makes us feel better

Flying can be fun, the key is just to relax. Get your mind off of flying by doing something. Listening to music or reading a magazine is a great way to relax yourself. Hope you have a great flight and remember to relax.
