Infanticide is often seen as a deviant act and is viewed as being committed only by certain cultures and by women of severe mental illness. Postpartum can make a mother want to kill her son. A woman letting her son die might be a priority-oriented decision. Some cultures practice the killing of gender-specific children because they hold having a male of higher importance than having a female, this priority is high enough for them to kill their children. Another priority to some cultures might be sacrificing their children to their gods. Some of these people actually believe that is an honor for their children to be sacrificed. Also, dependencies can be a cause. Any crazed addiction can cause you to sacrifice the things you really need for the things you think you need. In cases outside of culture, it could be rational impulse from certain emotions. The son may cause her great pain and pain when manifested often leads to anger. She might not know how to deal with that anger or what he has done and acts impulsively and rationally towards him. This could lead to the murder of someone you normally care for. Sounds crazy but we all allow our emotions lead us to some sort of rational behavior at some point. I do think any woman who does such a thing as killing her own offspring needs serious help. It is a shame that such things happen.
