The vast majority of Americans want it recognized as a federal holiday, so ... that's the way of it.

Christmas is not a religious holiday it is the day of the discount stores, the profit margin, the make or break day. Some (not many) people do use the same day to celebrate the birth of Christ, but most people celebrate shopping and eating.

We already do. yuletide and regrettably that has a tendency to insult human beings. you could no longer make each and every person happy. There are hundreds of comments approximately Christmas that have not got something to do with faith. In non non secular that's a time of giving to human beings comparable to the three sensible men bearing presents. Beside for some human beings answering this, Jesus maximum outstanding start date isn't easily favourite. In Biblical situations there have been basically 9 months to a 365 days until saints and rulers desperate there could be a month call after them. Calculations placed his start month as October and not December.

Christmas is obviously a Christian holiday. If the government sets aside the Christian holidays, they should designate the religious days of all the other religions as a federal holiday.

I think that the tradition is in place, so it should probably continue. There would just be too much protest over the change to make it work. Also, I believe 100% that our capitalist society will not allow the change. Our government is heavily influenced by American big business and they would work hard to stop the change. Christmas is just too big of a moneymaker. They will ensure that the celebration (and the spending) continues.
Besides, it is nice to have all these paid holidays!

At my work, workers are allowed to move their holidays. Some take Yom Kippor whereas other's take say kwanza (not that those 2 are related...) No religious holidays should be observed by the government. Which is why Christmas is ok. It is celebrating Santa Clause and not Christ as the name may infer.

Christmas is recognized as a federal holiday (which is why there is no mail).

It is recognized as a Federal Holiday in Canada and the us. It shouldn't be. Rememberance Day should be recognized instead. More respect for our veterans, damn it!

A private religious holiday, of course. It is a religious holiday, and I don't celebrate the birth of christ, so why shouldn't I be able to go to the store, or mail something?

I think it should be federal law that only the followers of all of the religions should be given their own religious holidays off.
Zoroastrians, theirs; Hindus, theirs; Jews, theirs; Buddhists, theirs; Christians, theirs; Muslims, theirs, Babi's, theirs; Baha'is, theirs.
