The bible says nothing whatsoever about Hell being in the centre of the earth. The words used in the bible are gehenna and sheol. Sheol was a fire that burned permanently on the edge of the encampment that was used to burn up anything that was unclean. When, in the new testament, it is mentioned that 'they' will be thrown out and burned up in the fire it means that those who do not repent and follow God's teachings will be thrown out at the time of reckoning as if they were unclean.

When I was a kid in sunday school sure cause everybody always pointed down when reffering to it. The bible does say where heaven is located it was a certain measure past the furthest star in the north or something like that.
Then again I used to think santa lived at the north pole. I later learned that during the 1970's he aquired a nice little coastal villa where he stays during the off season.

Heaven and hell both seem to be not affected by gravity. Thus, whenever each of those were created, the Earth and it's solar system have since traveled quadrillions of miles away from both of those places.
