Jesus' arrival through a virgin birth was a miracle that was meant to be, in order for the people at that time to believe in the miracles of God.
Don't forget that Jesus was given the ability to speak when he was still an infant.
Jesus does hold a high standard in the Qur'an, yet Muhammad (pbuh) has a higher level because he was the final prophet. Muhammad carried the heaviest burden in carrying out the message of God, because he had to have the message spread out to ALL man kind, while Jesus (pbuh) was sent to his people, just like all the other prophets (pbut).
If you have read the Qur'an or even taken a look at it, you would have seen that there is a whole Surah (chapter if you like) called Surat Mariam.
This Surah explains the whole story of the virgin birth.
Peace.

Hope I can answer this question as I am not a Muslim, I believe the Virgin Birth was to show that Jesus was truely human and truly divine. He was not a prophet, but Mohammad was a prophet for Islam.

All I know that Jesus when he come back he will be one of the follower of the prophet Mohammad ( peace be upon them all ). Jesus (pbuh) will kill those who called him God ,and he will pray in mosque and kill pigs .when Jesus ( pbuh) come back a lot of Muslims , Christians and Jews will believe in him. The prophet Mohammad ( pbuh ) hold in high esteem ( no proud ) because he is the only one who complete the message of God, so he know God religion more better than other prophets . That`s what I think and God know best.We Muslim love Jesus ( pbuh ) and believe in him with full respect.

Because that was one of his miracles. I'm not quite sure of what other anwer to give you. There may be a more specific answer than that, but was there a reason for him to turn wine to water, or raise the dead? Its to prove that he has been chosen by God to be not his son but his messenger. That doesn't mean he's more or less important than Muhammad. What distinguishes them is that Jesus's word has been twisted and forgotten, while the Qur'an has not been changed.
There is one thing, although I have no source to back it up. I know with Muhammad it was important that he had no father or son so as to avoid splitting the tribe of Quraish and have potential for one of his male kin to claim that he was the real divine. Because the Arabs were so patriarchally tribal, it was important that there was as little competition as possible.
Note: I wish I knew more about this topic, but I don't. This is second hand info from my sunday school teacher, so if anyone could back it up?

If a virgin birth is a requirement for prophecy, what about Moses, Abraham,... and the rest of prophets?
Muhammed is not only the last prophet, but his message was also global, lasting till day of judgment, and the holy Quran is saved by God from human alteration.

first of all , u should know that muslims are ordered to love , respect , honor all prophets(peae be upon them ) and not to make any difference or discrimination between them , not to say who is better than who.
as for question , each prophet has his own miracles , it differs from time to time and the kind og ppl he is sent to them and what are they good at , as miracles come to challenge ppl to believe that they are messangers from god , moses has miracles , great ones , abraham , noah........etc. (ia pretty sure u know about them),
for a out jesus, his birth is amiracle, and if u say that TO BE BORN FROM A VIRIGIN IS HIGH how about ADAM , HE CAEE FROM NEITHER OTHER NOR FATHER ?!!!!!!!!!!!!
god say in the Quran :
*{Lo! The likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him of dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.}* (Aal `Imran 3:59)
and for prphet muhammed (peace be upon him), he also had miracles , besides the greatest miracle he had is the Quran itself , since it is the ONLY divine revelation hasn't been changed since it was reveled , valide for all times , has no contradictions, has scientific miracles ................(if i started talking about quran it will take so much time), anyway, also if u noticed all prophets (peace be upon them all), all their miracles , is gone , once they were dead , BUT our prophet muhammd(peace be upon him), the quran stills , his teachings still , and also although this love we have for the prophet , we don't worship him ,or any one else , we worship god only, unlike christiany , they made jesus son of god.!!
but as i told u , we love jesus and our prophet , our teacher of that great religion, and all other prophets (peace be upon them all ,).

as a clear sign to the Israelites that he was the Messiah and Yet the denied him.
we follow the tradition of Prophet Muhammad but make no distinctions between the Prophets peace be upon them.
“Say (O Muslims): We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, and that which has been given to Moses and Jesus, and that which has been given to (all) prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him (Allah) we submit.” [Qur’an 2:136]

If i agree u, then Adam(pbuh) has even higher standing, since born without father & mother, isn't it ???
All this is Allah(SWT) will, who are we to question. Allah(SWT) is all knowing full of knowledge. Allah(SWT) has power over all things. Just we bow down before Allah(SWT) with full Humbleness & obey His will.
We Love all of our prophets. Yes certainly we give high esteem to our beloved prophet Muhammed(pbuh). " We worship none but Allah(SWT) & Muhammed(pbuh) is Allah(SWT) messenger ". We Muslims sealed this verse in our hearts & this is our soul.
If u don't believe, doesn't matter. Since " to you is your way & my is mine "...
We muslims love to answer ur questions. so simple...

Muslims deny the death and Resurrection of Jesus, why should the Virgin birth be of any significance to them? I am surprised that you are even asking them this question
