First and foremost, Satan id nothing to do with Pagan religions and Pagans are not Satanists.
Satan is mentioned in the Old Testament, in the New Testament and in the Koran. Satan also appears in the Jewish religion. The original meaning of Satan is the opposer and is not the same as the Devil.
The terms satan, satanic and satanism were used extensively by the Catholic church during the inquisition. The Catholic church was responsible for linking Satan with the Devil at this time.
Satanism as a religion was invented by Anton LaVey in 1966. It is not Devil worship. Satanism does not recognize the Jewish/Christian/Islamic God, but is more about the individual and rising above the common herd.

Contrary to popular beleif, satanism DOES NOT WORSHIP SATAN!!! it is a thological verion of athism. It was founded by an man named LaVey. Umm, theres alot more I could say, but go to this link if you are interested
