Good question. I think that sometimes teaching traditional values helps--and I don't mean religious values, I mean ethics and critical thinking in the school. Self esteem classes are helpful, as are personal development courses--it gives people the opportunity to know that they have the power to choose what they want to believe, rather being at the affect of their beliefs (ie they may have some kind of horror story playing in their head, and they still believe that it is true--and are trapped in the same patterns over and over.)
I agree that there are so many variables in our society and in our communities that are damaging to our senses. In the wake of extreme religions, behaviours, corporate blasphemy and politics, it's time for the people to rise to the occasion to change--that is if they want a lovely little planet called earth.
