She should deliver around December 10th, she is an American Eskimo, about 14 pounds (not pregnant). Her belly is getting round and very firm, and her nipples are getting larger, but I cant feel any puppies. Should i be able to feel puppies? Someone told me I would feel little golf ball shapes, and those were the puppies. Is there someone out there who can answer this?

Please no lectures... I did NOT breed her..... accidents do happen, she will be fixed AS SOON AS IT IS SAFE to do so after the pups are born.

I have been doing a lot of reading about birthing pups, and care of both the pups, and my Female, but I can't find anything about this issue!

Any friendly advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

Takes about 63 days for a dog. No, do not be worried that you can not feel the pups! We have had to have dogs xrayed to actually see and determine how many and if all looks ok, etc. Eskimos have a lot of coat also. Toward due date you may be able to feel them move around in her.
I am glad to see you have been reading and educating yourself so can help her and pups to be healthy. And that you plan to spay when pups are at least 9-12 wks as vet determines ok.

In some breeds it is easier to feel where pups are, but not always. I assume she is already trying to find her a "spot" to deliver, quiet and out of sight. I always had a place prepared with clean linens and showed it to the mom. No we don't breed, we rescue and get many dumped pregnant moms in need of help and a home.

Look for clues as to where she intends to birth, closets are good. Clear her space and start getting old towels, sheets, etc together. After birthing you'll want to get her and pups onto clean dry linens. Make sure room for her to nurse and lay out without squishing pups. Then let her be to do her mom thing. She will let you know if she wants your help and may warn you if you are tresspassing!! That is normal. Eskies can get pretty protective of litter. You just need to make sure no pup has gotten away out of "nest", get too cold.

And they seem to prefer nightime when it's quiet and no one around. I was lucky to have a roomy closet/ start leaving door open a bit for her. Eskies are smart and she'll pick up real quick on whatever spot u think is good and start taking her there and sitting with her. The sound of pups would normally wake me up.

Prior to she will go off her food and water somewhat. I always made sure room for water/food dish near her and pups for her when she felt up to. She will normally only leave long enough to go potty and that is when you can change linens, etc.

Clean linens keep pups from getting some skin irritations from laying on wet/nasty. And they housetrain easier from this!! I have helped with 100s of litters over 14 yrs.

Any questions later on please advise here.

I'd be very careful about poking around trying to feel puppies. I can't imagine it's good for them. Also, I'm sure at this point they're still to small to be felt individually anyway (they'll do a lot of growing in the next couple of weeks).

Good luck with the puppies!

Alot depends on your dog. I have females you could feel pups just prior to whelping and others you couldn't. Every dog is just like every women some show and have active babies and others you cant even tell are expecting. Go to the vet and let a pro feel around.

I would say not to worry, it can take untill a few days before she has the pups to be able to feel them moving around. I do say you made a good choice by making a vet apt. I am sure everythig will be fine. E-mail me and let me know what you find out, untill I hear from you I will be praying for you and you dog. Good luck sweeite!

Stand the dog on all fours, place your hand underneath her stomach near her back legs and feel very gently, you should be able to feel the hard balls within her stomach,or lay her down and you can see them move most of the time.Try going to http://www.peteducation.com you may be able to find something on this there.
