Not sure how big your Car trunk or back seat space.
But 42" means that your unit has 42" diagonal , where the lenght and wide comparison is 16:9. With a calculation you''ll have around 37" long and 21" width don't forget to add a few inch for the side speaker. Remember this is just the unit. The box will never get in to your car. BTW they usually have home delivery for big size unit, so why even bother.

About the only way you might is if you wedge it in the trunk and lash it down real good.

Unless your backseat folds down, no. 42 inch is pretty big, the box is bigger
