I have XP pro without a valid key and I am going to reformat my comptuer this weekend, I am looking at buying XP home. I have reformated with XP pro to XP pro. Is it any diffrent from reformating XP pro ro XP home? Its more of a downgrade than upgrade but its alright. Thats what I want anyways. Any Tips or advice?

Actually, you're on the right track and doing very well. There's not really any big differences between XP Home and Pro. The Pro version does have a few good features that Home doesn't but they both work the same. I especially like the "Repair" part of XP Pro because of the way it works perfectly which is great in these days where we never know what's going to happen lol. By putting the new cd install disk in the rom drive and changing the boot order in the "bios/setup" area when first booting up the machine so that it boots to the cd rom drive first. That way the new cd will start up and allow you to format and partition the hard drive and then will install the fresh, new copy for you. If I can help, I'll walk you thru it step by step until the job is complete. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590

Your basic computer experience is the same, even if you install XP Media, except for small differences. I prefer XP Pro for the networking ability of it, but if you have a single computer/laptop, I would say do the Media, or Home. The Media version is more geared towards DVD and games, hence the Media name.

Anyways happy formatting...

Formatting is the same whether you format with Win 98, Win 2000, Win XP Home or WIn XP Pro. You can format an NTFS file system to a FAT and vice versa also.

You can leave Pro on your computer, and still install xp home.
At the boot screen you will get an option of which to boot XP Pro or XP Home.
OK for when you get a key, eh!
