Immediately stop eating starch and anything with milk products. Drink water and lemon. Gargle and cleanse your nose out with lemon and water. Keep your mouth, the corners of your eyes, your ears and your hands CLEAN with lemon and water. The lemon will help to kill the germs.
If you don't have any, try vinegar. If no vinegar, try salt water.
Then take lots of vitamin C. If you don't start now, you're in trouble.
Do a fast-- eat broth, juices and water for three days-- freeze the Thanskgiving dinner for next week. If you eat lots of food, the germs will LOVE your body. They cling to food and grow families and build neighborhoods and towns in your body (with shopping centers and everything).
Take a laxative so they don't cling to what you've eaten already. If you don't have one, drink five glasses of water, one after another. If that doesn't work, drink two more glasses of water.
Serious-- Colds and the flu can be avoided if you act fast-- the second before you feel the germs attacking.

You will not feel a cold coming on that quickly if you sister was there just today. You also mentioned she had the flu not a cold. There is a difference in the two. Were you exposed to a cold by someone else a few days ago that you feel like you might be getting one?? Try getting the zinc lozenges or nasal spray at the store to help fend off a cold. Also be sure you are taking a good mulitvitamin and a good antioxidant supplement every day so you get you immune system built up so you don't catch everything that everyone else has.

This is going to sound crazy, but it really works for me when I have a cold. (Though it probably won't help the flu.) Spray garlic up your nose. That's right, the same spray that you use to season cooking. It doesn't hurt, if you like garlic it doesn't taste bad and it causes a miracle. I did this on the third day of my last cold and that same night I was able to sleep without nasal spray. I was stuffed up two days instead of five to ten, which is my usual. I am never going to ignore my mom's tips again!

I Would Recommend Some Zinc Preparation, it Might Work, BTW a Flu Shot Would Do Nothing for a Rhinovirus.

Don't start taking medications until you actually feel sick. Your brain could be playing games with you. Being paranoid can actually make you feel ill when you are perfectly fine. But to keep from getting sick, start taking Vitamin C, and keep your extremities warm, gloves and socks, or socks on both your feet and your hands if you don't have gloves. When you begin to feel sick, get as much rest as you can and continue to keep warm. Use expectorant during the day so you cough up all the bacteria and the phlegm, and suppressant at night, so you Can get your rest.

Take a teaspoon of honey and apple cider vineager...i had the same problem a few days ago and now i feel great...i know it may sound a bit different but it works and it really did not taste as bad as i thought it would....the honey is basically for the flavor and the vineager kills any bad bacteria in your throat that is causing the pain...you take up to 6 teaspoonfuls a day...it really works!!

ZICAM! It really works. Theres sprays, nasal swabs (which is what I use), lozenges to suck on. It helps prevent you from getting it, and if you do get it, it shortens the duration of the virus.
I also recommend taking ecchinacea and zinc, and vitamin c & e wouldn't hurt either. Thats what I do when I feel it starting, and I don't usually get sick, and if I do, its only for a day or two.
Wish you luck!

There is a product you can get over the counter at the drugstore called 'Airborne'. It was developed by a school teacher. It's suppose to stop colds or at least lessen their severity if you take it right away

Take a hot, steamy bath or shower. Then dress warm and cozy. Drink hot drinks and plenty of fluids. Take a good multivitamin, extra Vitamin C and a good B complex. Get plenty of rest.
Best Wishes,
Sue

Take some Airborne (disolve it in water) and then drink it or take some zinc lozenges.
If you feel a sore throat coming on, add 1tsp of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to 1 cup of water and chug it down! It REALLY DOES work!!
