Why does my nose get red when I drink any type of alcohol?

I absolutely cannot stand it! My boyfriend used to make fun of me for it. No fair.

Alcohol causes increased blood flow to surface vessels, which is why you shouldn't drink when you'll be outside in the cold. Your nose has a lot of blood vessels. Some people who drink heavily burst these vessels and have permanently red noses and cheeks. W.C. Fields is a famous example.

This happens to most of us whom are fair skinned......as the alcohol is absorbed into your system, your blood vessels dialate, thus causing the flushing sensation.....and be careful, that's what coppers look for when they pull you over for a driving while under the influence....if this happens when you drink, you might be at risk of developing rosacea, a type of skin condition that is associated with drinking (dark liquors and red wine especially).........you might want to keep away from tonic (Schwepps bitter lemon and lime, as well as tonic, which contains considerable amounts of quinine, which can repel mosquitoe bites.........) I found that drinking vodka with a clear liquid quieted the red nose syndrome.....

alcohol opens up blood vessles throughout your body. This is why you feel relaxed when you drink, and even why you pass out if you drink too much. More then likely you have a lot of blood vessles in the tip of your nose, and these cause your nose to turn red. don't feel bad, every time I drink, I loose my voice.

OH! Mine does too! And my face gets really pale. Like all the blood flows straight to my nose.

It occurs when blood vessels open up at the end of your nose as posted in earlier answer to your question.

You may wish to consult your physician to see if you may have a common skin condition called Rosacea, which is generally benign and treatable.
