Fine, oily, or limp hair Fine hair is most susceptible to looking 'oily' & can get this way after only one day. Opt for clear shampoos & stay away from the creamy ones that were made for your curlier sisters. You want a gentle shampoo marked for daily or frequent washing. The secret fine hair shampoo lies in a bodybuilding ingredient called panthenol. Hair experts swear that panthenol penetrates the hair cuticle making each strand thicker. Another tip: Use a dry shampoo or talcum powder between washings. Not only will the powder soak up oils, but it adds body as well.

Conditioners: Not all limp-haired ladies need conditioners. If you find you can easily comb out hair after washings without a conditioner you can skip it. Conditioners are good for combing out fine hair. Just don’t let the product touch your scalp. Massage a light-weight conditioner from mid-shaft down and no need to leave it on for long. If you have extremely greasy hair, look for the oil-absorbing tea-tree oil in your conditioner.

Extra tip: Consider using a spray conditioner. They tend to be more light-weight & therefore don’t weigh the hair down. Also, unless your hair is extra-oily, there’s no need to ‘rinse & repeat.’ One shampoo will do you. You don’t have to lather twice.

First of all, don't wash it at night unless you need to (like you're going out or something). Overwashing will make your scalp produce even more oil.

I have oily hair, too, and I have to wash it every day for it to look decent. I've found it doesn't really matter which shampoo I use, as long as it isn't a shampoo with conditioner. The key is to keep changing shampoos. I keep about three different kinds of shampoo at all times, and try not to use the same one for more than three days in a row.

Shampoos with citrus do tend to help strip the oil from your hair, but if you use them all the time, eventually your hair will start overproducing oil, just like if you wash it too much. So I usually keep at least one citrus-type shampoo on hand, but I don't use it all the time. Oh, and when I'm desperate because none of the shampoos are working any more, I use antibacterial hand soap. But only like once a month, never more often than that.

One consolation - oily hair is usually very healthy hair. You can do things to it (like color it or swim in chlorine pools a lot) that will cause other people's hair to become dry and damaged, and oily hair will still look great. So look at the positive side. Once you learn how to control the oil, you will have great, healthy-looking hair!

P.S. Feel free to email me (my email addy is on my YA page) for more info or just commiseration. ;)

the one thing that promotes oily hair is washing it too often, the norm is 2-3 days. Clarifying shampoo every 2-3 days and put very little conditionner.good luck!♥

Herbel Esscence helps the BLUE one!!!! Don't use shampoo and conditioner at once use conditioner maybe like 1 a month and use a like nquarter of shampoo depending by the legnth of your hair. If you have short hair use a nickel of it (when you squeeze shampoo into your hand it shold only be as big as a nickel/quarte or any other money) !!!!

Hope it works!!

You might want to try scrubbing your hair with baking soda (which strips the hair shaft and any product) at least 2x a month, and then using a high end made for oily hair shampoo. Works for me, hope it works for you!

Wow! That oily!!! Try sleeping with a damp thin towel so your hair dries slowly during the night. Then comb and blow dry the rest in the morning.
