I know that it is not allowed to have homosexual activity or to get married but is it a sin to have a girlfriend? If so, is it mortal or venial? I mean I do not have one but I really want to, and I would not do anything more than kiss her but still I do not want to sin.

The Catholic Church considers all homosexual activity to be sinful. It is not necessarily sinful to be a homosexual, because, one may have a homosexual orientation but not act on it.
However, if one acts on their homosexual orientation (sexual thoughts about another woman, kissing another woman, pursuing a romantic relationship with another woman) it is consider sinful.
Like with most sins, you will not be excommunicated from the Catholic Church, but it would prove to be an obstacle in receiving the sacraments, such as Communion. In order to receive Communion, you must confess your sins. And in order to make a confession, you must truly be sorry for your sin and have a genuine intention of not committing the sin. Therefore, it would be hard to make the confession in order to receive Communion.
However, there are many gays and lesbians who still consider themselves Catholic despite their homosexual relationships. Just like there are a lot of heterosexual people who live with their significant others and are not married and still participate in all the sacraments. As with all things Catholic, finding a good priest to talk to can be very helpful.

It is not a sin to have a girlfriend . All of the things you can do past kissing are sin because you aren't married.

Firstly, it is a sin to be a homosexual.... Because there is no such thing!
Read Genesis, Chapter 1 and you'll understand that God created woman to complement man.....
So man having intercourse with man, or woman with woman are both shameful and denounced by God.... it is called " sodomy".
So even if you have no gf at present..... God can see the thoughts of your mind. And He will hold you accountable for it.
So repent of your past thoughts and actions . This is what you have to do and continue doing if you are really concerned about not sinning.!

If you are a male, it is okay to have a girlfriend. Kissing and hugging are not a sin, but if you want to prevent fornication(sex outside of marriage) you should keep any type of making out to a minimum.

What are you talking about? Do you mean can a priest have a girlfriend? A priest can have many friends. I even knew one once that did what he called "dating", not sex, just dinner or night out with a woman friend. But it would not be good for him to fall in love, that would take his mind away from his job.

No it is not a sin to have a girlfriend. But if you strongly believe in your religion, don't have intercourse. Some people have different perspectives on couples and religions and stuff like that, but I think it is a sin to have intercourse though, but it creates life so I don't know.
