Exercise doesn't have to be hard and painful. If you start out slow and ease into it. Yes you need to get out of your comfort zone, but do what your body can handle. Your less likely to stick to it if you push as hard as you can and can't walk the next day. The body adapts to stresses placed upon it. As for people not having time, I know almost anyone can make some time for 30 minutes out of their day if they really wanted to. A single mother with children can go for a walk with them or take them to the park and play. Kids like to play! I'm a personal trainer and I just want to share with people the joys of exercise. Just know that everytime you exercise your doing maintenace on your body to keep it healthy. Good luck.

I know exactly what you mean. I am an exercise hater! Walking up the stairs to my classroom every morning is a trip. Why? Because I am lazy. My bones are stiff and I just can't work up the energy to get going. I know I should, but I just don't. But you know what - I thank you for the wake up call. In less than a month, I will be 54 and I know I need to get this body worked out. I have no excuse. I am steps away from a full, complete up-to-date exercise and weight room, sauna and steam room with indoor and outdoor pools. Shame on me.

i don't get it either. i exercise for 5 hours a day and it drives me crazy how most people won't even do the recommended 30 mins of exercise per day! people can be so lazy-they say things like 'oh, i have to study, i don't have time.' well then, study WHILE you are on the treadmill or elliptical trainer like i do-it makes the time go by faster if you're not watching it AND you're burning calories while you study!!!! university is such a hard time to be healthy and lose weight, but i am so not giving in to the freshman (freshwoman) 15! all you lazy people get off your butts and move move move!!!!

Let's face it: unless you're a hard core sports or outdoors fan, exercise is just not fun. For many people, it's a painful chore.

It also takes up a lot of time in the schedule of a busy person. Think about the working mom who needs to concern herself with caring for her kids after a long day at work. While she understands exercising is important, her own health is not as big a priority for her as that of her family.

There is also so much pressure in our society to be thin and fit, that it can almost be de-motivating to exercise when you think that, no matter how hard you work out, you'll never look like those models in magazines.

Finally, getting into shape takes a long time, and it's hard, when you start out, to really believe that all the work you're putting in is having an effect. It takes a leap of faith.

Because some people just hate to exercise. They may start with good intentions and then get tired or bored & give it up. People who own gyms know that more than 59% of members drop out, that's why they insist on a year's membership. As for those that are self motivated, gyms are not necessary.

Doing well in school, going to college, being successful in life - all of these examples are things in life that have SO MANY benefits but people choose not to do them because it's a ~choice~. Some people choose things in life based on their own personal priorities and not everyone has the same mindset.

Speaking for myself, it's because I'm lazy and don't like sweating.

I managed to lose 198 lbs in 1 year on the Kimkins diet which doesn't need exercise to work.

Still, I think exercise is beneficial for various reasons. I wish I liked it.

Because when you're not already in shape it's painful and extremely unpleasant.

(FWIW not all exercise is healthy, not all people who exercise and are healthy will have what society considers a "healthy" weight, and not all people have to exercise over and above their normal daily activities in order to maintain health.)

One simple answer to that question is because people are lazy.

No motivation.
It's as simple as that.

If you're lazy, it means you're not motivated enough to do it.
