Because they know you'll cover their butt. It used to chap my hide too, but there everywhere. Nowadays its harder to get rid of employees with all the laws and unemployment claims that employers are putting up with it. I think eventually it'll catch up to them; you'll have a house you own, they won't...you'll have a car paid off, they won't. You will be retired when you want to, they won't. In the end, I want to believe the hard worker will be better off.

I know exactly what you're talking about.
I can be lazy myself but not at my job. In my department I don't have time to be lazy. The only time I get to sit is on my breaks however there are some in other departments who take their breaks as well as spend a good couple hours on top of that on their behinds reading the newspaper/chit chatting rather than spending time with the residents they are supposed to be caring for. These are the same people who in January are going to be cut. You think that would make them realize they better start doing what they are getting paid to do but no...
It's very frustrating watching them do nothing while you're working your butt off trying to survive. I really have no sympathy for them. They deserve these cuts, they made their bed, now they have to lie in it.
I don't know the procedure where you work but at mine the full timers get so many paid sick days a year. I'm part time and in the 4.5 years I've been there I've called in twice and both times was because my pets were sick. One of them passed away that morning.
It's really hard working around people like this but like I said, they eventually get what they deserve.
Sorry, guess I ran off on my own little rant.

You must be in a lower-paying job that doesn't require lots of intelligence or training (not an insult to you - I worked at Wal-Mart during college!) I worked with lots of people who tried purposely to get fired so they could collect unemployment, as opposed to quitting and getting nothing for free.
Just remember that you are moving on to bigger and better things. The day you graduate and accept a job offer elsewhere will be the sweest day - giving your notice, hanging up your smock (vest, apron, nametag) and leaving that place behind.

lazy is easy - people these daze feel they should get paid for nothing - the younger generation feels a sense of entitlement - and some people have been doing their job so long, that they may have found they don't get rewarded for the hard work they've
done - so they stop trying and get by with doing the bare minimum.

I am in the SAME situation (18 credits + 30hrs per week of factory work)
Often people complain about things and suddenly they can't help but see the negative of everything!
Help them see the positive side of their lives. Show them what they have going well for them and show them Christ! Remember that the first of all the commandments is love. Bury the frustration and help them! :)

There is no importance in working how many hours a day, how many days a week, how many weeks a month, how many months a year, how many years in the whole human life. The important thing is to do what, for what purpose and how. So, there is no use for you to judge them.

You would do yourself a favor to concentrate on yourself and what you do. People lead by example. The ones that don't do the work will eventually get the boot. But if you get yourself so involved in how they work and what they don't do you will find yourself angry and following the same path.

Because their parents did not install a good work ethic in them. They probably had parents that did everything for them and when they get out in the real world they are sorely disillusioned thinking that it is going to continue.

This is an excerpt from one of my books:
Baby Clues
Stage 1: A baby lies around and sleeps a lot. When it awakes, it has only two needs; to eat and defecate. He is required to do very little work to satisfy his needs. The baby simply blows air out of two orifices. If he blows air out of his top hole, it makes a crying noise. His mother hears the crying noise and feeds him. If he blows air out of his bottom hole, it creates a stinking odor. The mother smells it and changes his diaper. (Figuratively, some people never mature past this 1st Stage of babyhood.)
